I see in both innings Pakistan has got leg byes. That is very weird, since I dont really remember the CPU scoring runs of leg byes. (unless you play in easy mode)

the australian team landed in zimbabwe today full of confidence after crushing pakistan in melbourne last week. minus leg spinner stuart macgill (citing political reasons), the team arrived in harare to prepare for tomorrows match against the struggling african nation. the lineup is not expected to change for the clash according to coach john buchanan

"well no at the moment we will look to keep the team continuity going, the team is looking well and we just want to get some momentum now with the clash against new zealand only a number of days after. however we will look at the fitness of all of our bowlers, perhaps some may be rested depending on how this match plays out. but at the moment we are looking pretty good."

so to tomorrows match against the zimbabwians at the harare sports club. Match updates hopefully will be posted tomorrow.

Australia Vs Zimbabwe

updates from the first days play in harare.

tony greig with the pitch report and toss:
greig "welcome to the harare sports club in beautiful zimbabwe. a lovely sunny day for the players here today as we are about to witness arguably the bottom team in the current test arena play the undisputed world champions.

so to the pitch here in harare and unfortunatly we have had a bit of rain in the number of days leading up to the clash here and that has resulted in a slightly greenish wicket. i feel theres a bit in it for the bowlers early on today however if you can survive long enough out here you are sure to make some runs. however having said that, getting on top of the bowlers here will be very difficult indeed.

to the toss of the coins now and zimbabwe captain tatenda tiabu has won the toss. tatenda what are you going to do?"

taibu - "we will have a bowl thank you"

greig - "no surprise here, now tatenda you have come in with 5 frontline bowlers, 4 quicks and of course the spinning option with price. tell us the thinking behind that decision"

taibu - "well when you look at the austalian batting lineup we just felt that we will need 5 bowlers to take the 20 wickets needed against this team. of course that will hurt our batting a little bit however to win the test you need to take 20 wickets and this pitch will help a little bit. we will just have to see how it goes"

greig - "best of luck to you and the boys. now to australian captain ricky ponting, ricky what do you make of this wicket"

ponting - "well tony obviously we would have liked to have had a bowl on this greenish wicket however i have full confidence in our team and the boys are feeling really good at the moment so we will just have to go out and get our heads down early. if we can get through the first session relatively unscathed then we should be ok."

greig - "you go put the pads on their ricky, well there you have it, zimbabwe have won the toss and are going to have a bowl"

Match Report - Lunch Day 1

Zimbabwe were confident their 5 strike bowlers could do a job at the start of the day today and their quicks have so far produced. the morning could not have started better, langer caught at 2nd slip from some superb bowling from heath streak for 4. this was followed by another quick wicket, matthew hayden out LBW to blignaut for only 6. ricky ponting, fresh off his 144 in melbourne seemed in strong form moving to 10 before he was also caught infront, this time LBW to ervine. the quicks had done their job, australia reeling at 3/23. clarke joined martyn with a tough struggled promised and at lunch to pair had survived and consolidated, the score 3/68 martyn unbeated on 27 and clarke 19.

images from the first session of play shown below:
- langer's dimissal, edge to 2nd slip off great bowling from streak
- martyn wears one on the hands on a lively harare greentop
- clarke looks to consolidate early on

scorecards at lunch on the first day of the test match - zimbabwe very much in the box seat

Match Report - Tea Day 1

martyn and clarke resumed the australian innings after the lunch interval with the score at 3/68 with the need to stabilise a threatening situation. the pair did well for the first part of the 2nd session before martyn was c&b by left arm spinner raymond price on 41 (106 balls). however from this point on clarke and simon katich have used grit and determination to consolidate the innings and take the score to 4/155 at the tea break. clarke moving to 61* and katich batting slowly but steadily to be 14*.

images from the 2nd session below:
clarke reaches his second 50 in as many innings

scorecard at the tea interval
