The FA Cup Thread

Congratulations Everton for reaching the Cup Final. It could've gone either way really, both defenses were superb, I think most teams would've had trouble getting through either of us today. We should've had a penalty in the 90 minutes, but there you go. I hope you beat Chelsea in the Final. And this should give added spice to the midweek meeting between Everton and Chelsea. Shame it isn't at Goodison, I think Everton would've really given them a game there. Still, Chelsea's defence is looking very shaky right now.

I don't mind Sir Alex fielding a weakened team; I thought they did really well and none of them looked out of place. Macheda coming through is as good as a fresh new signing. Maybe he should've stayed on the pitch, Berbatov did nothing when he came on and that penalty he struck was the worst I've ever seen. For me, he's still a long way from proving himself a Man Utd player. The thing I don't get is why did Sir Alex not at least have Rooney and Ronaldo on the bench? I agree with not playing them, but not even having them on the bench at least? That was a mistake for me and cost us the game even more than fielding a 'weakened' team.

Also, why didn't Tevez take one? He was on the pitch, surely? What about Scholes? Or the Brazilian kids? Brazilians are usually good at pens. I mean, Rio and Vidic (immense, the pair of them) taking our second and third pens?? Macheda would've wanted to take one if he was still on, I'm pretty sure of that.

As far as the 90mins was concerned, that's much more like the old Utd. The defence was immaculate and there was some good attacking play going forwards. Add Rooney, Ronaldo and Carrick to the mix and we should be fine for the rest of the season.

It was always going to be too much to ask to win the lot and the FA Cup was always going to be the fall guy (out of the tournaments left, of course otherwise it'd be the Carling Cup). Still, I would've definitely included Ronaldo on the bench - Rooney was actually injured.

Quintuple's over. I know that sounds bitter but if United had managed it, we'd NEVER finish hearing about it.

As if it was not bad already. First of all I refuse to consider the CWC as a trophy worth winning, and the Carling Cup well is the Carling Cup. So if you ask me Manure have won nothing yet.

Hmm, funny. Everyone else who was in the Carling Cup this season seemed to think it was worth going for. Your beloved Chelsea are the ones who have won nothing.

Absolutely gutted that my mate failed with his promise of getting me a Wembley ticket for today (bell end) but I don't care because we're in the final. I'll hold my hands up and say United were denied a definite pen when Wellbeck was fouled but that's what happens in football.

Phil Neville. Superstar.

This coming from the chap who considers the Peace Cup to be a major tournament.

I never said it was. Stop making up stuff. You are just bitter you were not invited.

The only thing Madrid will get close to winning this season.

It falls under next season. Get your bloody facts right.

Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. And i'm still crestfallen about our lack of participation in the Peace Cup. Our place in the FA cup final just feels so hollow in comparison.

oh well. Fegie's team selection was good I thought. Had we gotten a peno everyone would be saying good job.

I would rather have won on Wednesday, sad but true. The league is head and shoulders above every competition in importance for me this year.

Just the FA Cup you know. Slightly more important than the Peace Cup. Atleast the latter is international.

Leaving myself open to abuse, but what the hell is the Peace Cup?
Not at all, I think it's a reasonable question to ask. Why would you have heard of a pre-season cup competition thats only been held 3 times and the qualification seems to be that you actually say "yes" when asked if you want to play it (probably because you stuffed up your pre-season schedule!). I'd say the importance of it rates slightly below possessing an Ashley Giles - King of Spain cup!

Fair play Everton, deserved it, awful game. But they looked like they wanted to be there on and off the pitch, unlike some of our players on the pitch and our "supposed" fans off the pitch. I actually thought the CC final had a decent atmosphere where I was, but yesterday was just woeful. No standing, hardly any times that songs properly got going throughout the United end (unlike the Everton end). In my block for example, I was singing, a lad and his dad down at the front were singing and then a couple of about 13/14 year olds (who seemed pretty clued up for their age). Couldn't believe that at a semi-final, they might as well have just stayed at home and watched it on the telly. The man next to me, for example, videoed the whole of the penalties on his phone, yeah, think ITV might have done a better job of that mate.

As I say fair play to Everton, we probably should have had a penalty but I didn't see an awful lot wrong when Cahill was set to go through. An FA cup semi final, is not the time to play your kids. No prior warning that he was gonna do it either. One win and we wouldn't have had to play in it until the end of May. If he was gonna play a weakened side why didn't he do it for the Spurs game at home, or the Derby away game, or the Fulham away game, rather than getting to the semi-final. All I'd say now is that it's imperative we win on Wednesday night, absolutely imperative.

United seemed to be outnumbered going down there on the motorway and coming back up, and definitely were at the service stations. Was ok at the Torch though, loads of reds there:) Shows how bad the atmosphere was that the best moments of singing were outside the entrance about half an hour before kick off. First of all a ginger kid gets lifted up, and he gets "Paul Scholes he scores goals", then a oriental looking gentleman starts orchestrating the songs and he gets lifted up to "Park, Park, whereever you may be..":D Absolute class outside there.

Less said about Berbatov's pen the better.

Very gracious in defeat there Phil. If only a certain UAE based member on this forum could follow suit.

I didn't have a problem with the team, we were pretty evenly matched. Had the peno been given everyone would be praising him, penalties are a lottery. I would spend more time criticising Berbatov than Fergie.

btw did we bring a ipod out? It's blatantly not going to work anymore because players will just go the other way. :p
