The FA Cup Thread

Yeah but Cahill was through on goal as well and I don't understand what the foul was about, so both teams were denied scoring chances.

I didn't have a problem with the team, we were pretty evenly matched.
It's no good being evenly matched though is it? Evenly matched won't win you that many games. We were pretty poor, I can't remember many clear cut chances (at either end). Why not have Ronaldo or Carrick etc. on the bench? Why not say he was going to play a weakened side? When you have such a long (and expensive) day, it's pretty difficult to take a weakened side like that in the semi-finals.

If we win the league now, it'll obviously have been worth it, but you never know when your next trophy is, and so maybe we shouldn't have taken it so lightly.

Carrick is injured and the others needed a break. The pitch was obviously enough of a concern for fergie to not put out some of the players he wanted to. I dont think we did alot wrong just lost a game of chance.

Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. And i'm still crestfallen about our lack of participation in the Peace Cup. Our place in the FA cup final just feels so hollow in comparison.

True, a place in something called the Peace Cup would just leave it in the shade eh, evertonfan? Good luck v Chelsea Wednesday/FA Cup Final day and well done Sunday.
Can't help but think that David Moyles comments about the referee might have had some effect on his decision, although he'll never actually admit that in public.

Surely Ronaldo should've been on the bench though? And I'd like to know why Tevez didn't take a penalty: I'm sure he was on at the end.

As I said before, I think both defences were excellent; more a case of great defending rather than poor attacking, I thought we played some good stuff and bit by bit are coming back to form. Rio and Vidic at the back are vital, let's hope they keep clear of any little niggles...

Well lets look at the normal 11 ill put them in green if they should have played and red if they shouldnt.

VDS - Should have played was rested last week, getting old though i guess.

Neville - Getting old cant cope with 2 games a week
Ferdinand - Needed the game
Vidic - Evans doesnt seem 100% and vida is on fire atm
Evra- Badly out of touch needed the game to get back to his high standards

Ronaldo - Played alot recently and ran alot midweek, need him for upcoming games
Carrick - Injured
Scholes/Giggs - Hadnt played wednesday/cant play 2 a week
Park? - Got a game

Rooney - Ran tirelessly midweek needed and deserved the break for this week
Berbatov - Should have got the full 120 cause hes a lazy bugger and needs the excercise.

So fergie pretty much left out the right players debatable if he put the right ones in.

I didn't have a problem with the team, we were pretty evenly matched. Had the peno been given everyone would be praising him, penalties are a lottery. I would spend more time criticising Berbatov than Fergie.

btw did we bring a ipod out? It's blatantly not going to work anymore because players will just go the other way. :p

I mean, I can't figure out what the hell Berbatov was up to! We've all seen penalties where the taker just lobs it down the centre: if Dimitar had done that, maybe he would've scored (element of surprise). And I want to know what the hell our centre backs were doing taking the second and third penalties! But that Berbatov kick was saving practice for Tim Howard, nothing more. Berbatov needs to wake it up a bit if he's going to stay at Utd. As I've said before, Rooney and Tevez up front every time. With Macheda on the bench.

The only reason I can see for bringing Macheda off early is because he's a seventeen year old kid and it's probably wise not to push him too much too soon, otherwise I thought him and Welbeck worked well together. Damn shame that some of Welbeck's chances didn't fall to Macheda, I reckon he would've put them away.

Oh well, still got the League and CL to focus on, eh? Another Treble, barman please!

I didn't know Carrick was injured, where did you hear about that? As for Ronaldo, he missed most of last Saturday's game, so he could have at least maybe have been on the bench.

It was just Fergie's casual sort of attitude for it really. Doesn't seem like he's that bothered. It was the competition which saved his job and it makes us look a bit spoilt if we just disregard it as just another cup. You never know when your next one will come.

I think Tevez was planned to take the 5th penalty at first. I wondered about it at first but if you think about it then it's got a pretty good chance of being the decisive one.

Moyes definitely got to Riley, but who can blame him for trying? It's nothing Fergie hasn't done or will probably do in future to be fair. Riley needs to get a lot stronger mentally though.

Remember fergie saying he is the only doubt for wednesday something about injuring his ankle or something im pretty sure he collided with someone the game before the Semi and did something to it but should be back for wednesday. Can you remember the part he got tackled by his own player or am i making it up? :S

He seemed to care when we didn't get the penalty! I haven't ever seen him that mad before! And thanks for clearing up the Tevez thing. Still, you could see it was going tits up, so he should've been moved up the order. Oh well, never mind eh?

Huge game tonight, if Arsenal can take points off Liverpool, we can be three points clear at the end of Wednesday's games if we win. And Arsenal haven't been beaten for ages, have they?

Yeah, I was thinking that too, still was very strange that two central defenders took the 2nd and 3rd penalty. However, I don't think you're allowed to change it after you've submitted the names to the ref.

Aye, he looked bothered then, and he'll want to win every game, but it was a bit late then. It's not that we've gone out thats the problem, more the manner of it.

Yeah 17 games I think since Arsenal lost, think with Van Persie and Adebayor out tonight though, that it might come to an end.:(

If I'd had said it was going to continue, then you would have lost. Simple as that.:p Cheers by the way:D

No problem, give us the CL now. 'Tis only fair.

It's nice to be wrong sometimes, isn't it? :happy Still, Arsenal really should've won that game, shocking defending!

Damn straight! And well done on bursting Liverpool's little bubble. :p :D :D

Well, I can see it being a real slugfest over two legs for that Final place!! 'twill be fun...

Guus Hiddink has done a good job in his short spell at Chelsea. Atleast Drogba looks to be back to his best and even Anelka has done well. His only title triumphs are with PSV and Real Madrid though.
