Gala Event
As the host Tom McGeehan introduces the fans to what the event is all about, a huge screen comes on with a video of The Java Kings “The sky’s the limit” on the video we see Graham Barrett knock down a run, Dean Keigher punching his fist taking a wicket…the screen fades out
TM: Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the 2007 Kings Gala night as we hand over prizes to the players who best performed in each category, the night also won’t be without some great entertainment as we have music entertainment and also the release of The Java King’s new official theme song performed live by Sound of a Revolution “C’mon let’s go” but for now let’s go back to the studio in Randburg with Tony
TN: Thanks Tom, a very special night forget about losing the leagues or not doing as well as hoped for but Clive it wasn’t a horrific season?
CR: Not at all Tony, we saw some young talent coming through and even some of the older players played some good cricket, Halford is an example that age really shouldn’t matter; you are as old as you think you are.
TN: I hear that we are about to go back live to the event…
TM: Welcome back to the 2007 Kings Gala night, please welcome on stage the President of Java Kings Shev
Shev: Thank you very much Tony and thank you ladies and gentlemen. It has been a rough year but you stuck it out with us, you took the blows with us. We have had things to cheer about and we had things that made us sad, we all are still sad about the sudden death of long serving member John Gates, but tonight’s event is about praising those who did well and as many of the players won’t receive prizes I want to tell them that not to feel down on yourself but to say next season I will be doing better. The Java Kings wouldn’t be what we are today if it wasn’t for every player bringing their side and the times I have been with the team at training or social events all of the players did what they were asked of and that always brings a smile on the face, ladies and gentlemen may next year be a season that we all will enjoy, thank you
TM: Shev the President of the club, now our first category will be that of the FC Bowler of the year, a lot of new faces were in it and also a lot old faces but the award for the best FC Bowler goes to Bernard Townley
*Townley is a youth product of The Java Kings and receives a great prize for earning best FC bowler of 2007*
TM: Congratulations Townley our second give-away is the FC Batsman, please note that even players who were transferred also qualify so with further a due Sean Pedro
*Sean Pedro terminated his contract due to family commitments, the English player knocked an amazing 1359 runs in his allotted eight games*
TM: as we take a few moments to change the scene of the stage to OD from FC, I’m going to have a brief chat with Jeffey Bailey the coach
TM: Jeffey hard season or what?
JB: Yes, it was hard but not too hard we had chances of finishing better but we can’t change history that is how the cookie crumbles they say.
TM: What is in store for the team next season?
JB: Well the players will enjoy a few days off, but after that it’s back to the drawing boards and back to full on training.
TM: Will we see any new faces or any outgoing players?
JB: That is a bit early to answer mate, we will have to wait and see.
TM: Are The Kings going to be active in any other leagues for example the PC league?
JB: Mate, I’d like to see this team be in a Sunday league but it’s a lot more complicated than that we are a professional outfit and I’m afraid the PC organizers don’t fit our regime take nothing away from the multi-talented teams playing in there but a lot of bad blood has been directed at us and also the way the leagues in there are being handled is appalling to say the least.
TM: So no new leagues?
JB: I never said that, we are in talks with a new sporting community called Msports that will see eight teams be drafted in a league on an official website broadcast.
TM: thanks for the talk…
TM: Ladies and gentlemen let’s get back to the show and also with our third prize, this is for OD Bowler of the year…Dean Keigher
*Mr.Keigher took no more than 48 wickets this season with a good 7/26*
TM: Now for the 2007 best Batsman in the OD division…David Tolley
*This was a close call between David and Graham but in the end Tolley nudged Barrett by 2 points to claim the trophy*
TM: it’s a special honour to play for the Kings club but it’s every rookies dream to be chosen as rookie of the year, here were a lot of players sticking their hand up for this but only one could take it and he is …Sarath Bastianpillai
*Sarath also now is captain of the Kings after Tolley turned down the offer of being captain, Pillai has done the team and also the coach proud.
TM: And now the eyes turn to what we all have waited for the 2007 MVP, four players were nominated they are Graham Barrett, David Tolley, Sarath Bastianpillai and Dean Keigher but it was David Tolley who beat Barrett yet again to claim the MVP award.
TM: We are at the end of what has been a truly memorable season we hope to see you follow The Kings journey to stardom and hope to see you back next time around and remember the sky’s the limit
*A commercial comes up and is soon followed by the live performance of Sound of a Revolution, the commentary at studio can be heard*
TN: What a show, good bye for now.
