The day hasnt started off how i would have liked, in fact it has been a nightmare! My top order hasnt performed at all and although the pitch is bowler orientated i expected better than this, even the big international star quality of Freddie failed to work its magic, all in all a very dissapointing first session, both because of the wickets lost and the amount of runs scored, my stomach dropped when the first wicket went down and it has gotten lower and lower sinse then...

Ian Sutcliffe managed only one four in his innings of 12 runs, a crunching on drive, the pitch was doing all sorts though and he was finding it hard to score, his innings ended when he bottom edged one onto his stumps from the bowling of McLean.

The added pressure of captaincy has obvously taken its toll on Stuart Law as he gave his wicket away cheaply, he played a wonderfull cut shot before compltely missing a straight one from McLean, he too faces a fair few balls for his score, the pitch was proving hard to play on.

b6yffa.jpg

Brad Hodge only faced six balls and scored one four during his time at the crease, the four was almost a carbon copy of Law's, he also missed the straight one from, this time it was Laraman who claimed the wicket, this pitch seemed to be doing everything for the mediocre bowling attack of Somerset!

b6yfwk.jpg

Andrew Flintoff came to the crease and needed to make at least 50, with his side strugging allong be played a trademark innings scoring 20 rund from 15 balls in 27 minutes. He sent three balls thundering to the boundary before the lateral movement of the pitch got the better of him.

b6ygcz.jpg

Mark Chilton remains ot out at lunch on 35, a watchfull innings from 113 balls, doesnt seem a lot but its a strike rate of 30, the pitch has been troubling him also but he has known which ones to leave, four fours for him. He needs to convert this big start and make sure its him that makes the century. That is what we will be planning on all season, one of the top 4 to make a century in each innings and for other people to bat around him.

Thats dissapointing especially after the openers had seen off the new ball! Interesting to see all 4 wickets have been bowled too.

Thats what you get for having the groundsman prepare a pitch for the bowlers, dont worry though, things brightened up after lunch, update soon!

A much better session after lunch, 99 runs added to the total and only two wikets to tell of, it should have only been one from my point of view but its a whole different story when your out there in the middle i suppose, Mark Chilton remains unbeaten having passed his half century, he comes in at tea on 82no. Dominic Cork is his partner at the crease at the moment and he is on 10no.

Marcus North told me when he came back to the pavillion that the pitch is getting better, even as he played he noticed that the ball didnt seam as much towards the end and the bounce was getting more even, maybee thats just the ball getting older....He played a fine supporting knock of 43 and was gutted to have missed out on his half century. He edged to Hancock at third slip after surviving a misjudged catch attempt in the deep.

Heggy was inconsolable when he made his way back to the dressing room, he ddint want to talk to anyone and im not surprised, he faced just one ball, he flashed at it, short outside off stump and tick edged it to Smith an second slip, not much else to say really, just that im sure Heggy will be back on top of his game nehind the stumps when he gets back out there.

Mark Chilton looks set to make his first century of the season in the first innings of the first game, he has stepped up to the plate and has saved Lancashire some blushes after they got off to a bad start, he was well supported by Marcus for most of the second session and Corky is a tough old bugger too so expect some more runs from these two!

bit of a recovery, but sorry harmy.... i hope somerset win! (but i'll be supporting you against ever other county :p ) Nixon McClean bowling 11 overs for 13?! he normally goes for about 6 an over! lol

Bit of a recovery but the 6 wickets is still a concern for so few runs! 250 would be a decent score and anything after that considering that start you've had would be a bonus!

The pitch is suppporting seamers, we wait to see what it is going to be like when someone decent bowls on it :)

:D , yeah ok..... suprised johnson only took 2-57, i would of thought that pitch is right up his street, bit of cloud cover as well.

Yes, but with their top order they still have a good chance of a big first-innings lead.

Hope you prove me wrong, though!

Another good session for us, i thought we batted extremely well and capitalised against the old ball, we had to slow it down towards the end when Somerset called for the new ball but we saw it through without losing too many wickets, we did stop however for 41 minutes due to rain, this could have diskointed the batters at the crease but it just slowed the wicket down which helped us. It should have dried by tomorrow though which will be crucial when we bowl.

Just one wicket to tell of in this session, that of Dominic Cork, after an absolute gem of a supporting innings, he scored 8 boundaries on his way to a brilliant 42, he like Marcus deserved at least a half century, we just need one more batter to get near or pass that mark and we can then say we have done a decent job, although Glenn Chapple will be looking for more im sure. Corky eventually fell to a cracking yorker from McLean who has bowled wondefully.

Mark Chilton passed the century mark for the first time this season in fine style, his inning of 100 included 11 fours, he currently stands on 113no at rhe end of day 1 and will be hoping to press home the advantage tomorrow, he will be in strong running for the job of captain after Stuart Law came to me today and said that he didnt think he was up to the job, i dont want to pressure anybody so i let him do it, hopefully it will be a weight of his shoulders and he can continue to play the way i know he can.

Fine innings from Chilton and good support from Cork too, well you got over 250 and with Chilton still there, 300 may be possible if the tail can hang around. I predict a draw for this match!
