RACING The new F1 game from Codies

whats the big deal about this lap time crap? it's not like you can't actually race? like you still have to drive properly to get past ai and stuff isn't that important?

It's just fake.

Proper racing algorithms are vital to a sim (Gran Turismo), I guess it boils down to whether you want a proper sim or an arcade racing game.

what would a proper sim have though, i mean isn't stuff like how the cars handle and feel important. I mean the AI still overtake they can still win, you still have problems overtaking and keeping position so whats the big deal? ok fake lap times...

I found out the game arrived on Friday but nobody bothered to tell me so I've finally got the game now. It's installing slowly. About 50% done now.

Ok. I've got it. I played one race on medium, starting 6th on the grid and finishing 4th. I have to play it on my laptop though and it is very slow. Is there anything I can do to make it go faster.

And how can I save the game? It says I have to have a live account so I logged in and it said to update but then it wouldn't update saying some error. Any ideas.

Ok. I lowered the graphics a fair bit without much difference in game and it goes a lot better now. I still need help with the live account update though. I hate it that I have to create a new racer everytime I want to play the game.

Even with the bugs, the game is still immensely fun. For the first release of the series I think it's a decent effort, sure it needs work on being patched, but it's good fun still, with all the Aids off, it's a brilliant challenge. I'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed DIRT2. Online will probably be what I spend most of the time on, and that will easily fill the gap for when the inevitable patch comes out.

Well, PC Gamer gave it a solid 80% - I might pick it up later on, I've got a lot of games coming up - such as Fifa 11 (maybe PES 11 as well for BaL), Bad Company 2 and I've just received Fallout 3 GoTY Ed.

If they sold a perfect game though, would anyone ever by the sequel to it?
Yes, 2K Sports is just doing this with NBA 2K11. NBA 2K10 was by most measures one of the best basketball games ever and 2K11 is on course to possibly win a best sports game of the year award.

No game is going to be perfect but even very good games can be improved if the developers have the desire to do so.

Could be a silly question, but is it possible to do 2 player on the same console?

Not sure about PC, but definitely not on PS3 and Xbox.

And with regards to the faking of racing, it's only in Qualifying that they've admitted to being fake, the race they have said is proper.

No 2 player on the same console? again!? Deffo not getting this. No thanks Codies

You can do Time Trial Party, which consists of one controller being used by several people in a Time Trial environment. Of course the LAN option still exists, though that isn't very practical.

Patch was confirmed today. That was about it on details though, I doubt we'll see anything within a month. The AI racecraft is exceptional, they do things I've not seen in other racing games (I've played most other racers). It has some flaws, some of the rather big. The puncture "bug" seems to be more of an issue that the variable for going off-track is very harsh.

Some annoyances with the game.

No way of telling how far ahead someone is in the race, only have times based on the current lap with a +/- compared to the leader. They seem to be faster with race fuel load than in qualifying (albeit that was based on one races experience). But seriously, I have to re-iterate the AI racecraft point, truly brilliant. It's a solid base for a series, albeit a buggy one, I think the series could produce some crackers in the future.

I finally managed to get the autosave working but whenever I log in to my gamer live account, it says it could not log in, there could be a problem with your internet connection.. blah, blah, blah. So I cannot play online atm. What difficulty are you guys playing on. I started playing on medium and hard but moved up to Expert and started a career but I was coming last by a fair bit although I raced well at the start cause I spin out at a few of the corners at Bahrain.

Edit: Does it take everyone else forever to load. It takes me nearly 10 minutes to get into a race.

I'm not PC, so can't say. But I haven't heard anyone else on PC with those times. What are your specs?

Also, hardest settings for both. It's hard, but do-able. Will be easier when it's patched, getting a warning for the slightest of contact is a bit annoying.
