Tournment Ends

Man, Kohli performed whenever he got the chance. It'll decrease his morale to a great extent if we drop him now.

Kohli is not a late batting order hitter. With Dhoni and Yuvi back to the side, Kohli has to go. He is Dravid part 2 no doubt, his time will come he just has to wait but Raina is the person we look forward to now incase of a top order collapse or death overs hitting.

i don't think sri lanka need to be too disappointed.

they're tinkering about, they are definitely keeping an eye on the long term and the world cup.

Lakmal, Randiv and Tharanga are the positives from this series more than results.

I am guessing both will be accomodated in the lineup, sacrificing the allrounder (Jadeja). We might revert back to our age old '4 bowler policy' because now we have enough part time spinners. For the 2011 World Cup, both should be groomed and so we might see both of them playing equal part in the upcoming ODI games.

I have a feeling Raina is going to get axed. It's not his fault but the others are just knocking on the door too loudly.

I hope his ODI performances don't affect Badri's etc test possibilities tho.

Kohli can accelerate a lot faster than Dravid used to do in his top days. His first six of the game was a nonchalant flick that easily crossed the ropes. He almost cleared the ropes the second time but was caught just on the boundary (miss the catch and it was six). Did you see those square cuts yesterday? He gave some power to them inspite of not being a very bulky guy. In case of a top order collapse, Kohli is the guy. In case of death overs hitting, Raina is probably better but thats purely due to Raina having more experience in the big hitting.

Finally India seal the series, thanks to Gambhir and Kohli, both really played well...Happy X'mas to all members of Planetcricket....

I disagree with you on that. Its alright looking ahead to the World Cup but Sri Lanka have lost 4 straight series to India in 13 months now and more worryingly none of them have been alive even till the last game, and 3 of those were in Sri Lanka. They`ve been a pretty poor ODI side for sometime as their ranking would show.

Their only ODI series win was against Pakistan early this year but apart from that they`ve been quite poor to say the least. Sri Lanka`s ODI record against India since 2005,
Sri Lanka in India, 2005/6 : India won 6-1
Sri Lanka in India 2007, India won 2-1
India in Sri Laka 2008, India won 3-2
India in Sri Lanka 2009, India won 4-1
Sri Lanka in India 2009, India won 3-1

Plus, that tri series defeat again in Sri Lanka. Their only positive performance has been in the Asia Cup final but that was purely the mystery of Mendis which has now been figured out by the Indian batsmen.

That is like 6 straight series defeats to India and the Indian conditions are`nt alien to the Lankans which would make it more worrying.

What I hate the most is politicians passing the buck. I'm talking about the floodlights problem which occured yesterday, during the closing overs of the Sri Lankan innings. The opposition is now blaming the government, the government the CESC (Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation), and CESC the CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal). :facepalm What none of them realize is that, if this problem persists, Eden might lose out on hosting the D/N matches of next year's IPL. Kolkata is already in the bad books of BCCI because of many a reasons, and at this point of time, the floodlights going off is the last thing I expected.

Floodlights problem may lead IPL out of Eden Garden

I was at the match yesterday..
Eden atlast had an intresting match..
the last complete odi match was against south africa in which smith kicked india ass.

Btw i just observed that.
all left handers openers of the visiting team have been scoring centuries here
Marcus Trescothick
Salman Butt
Greame Smith
and then yesterday
Uplu tharanga

In the 1990's,put up any left hander against India and he was bound to score a century. Look at the record of the left handed batsmen in history and you will find that, their performances always shoot up whenever they play India.
Examples of the same include-
S Jayasuriya
S Anwar
Neil Johnson
A Blignaut
A Flower

Brian Lara kinda missed out scoring heaps against India, but his partner Shiv Chanderpaul really tormented us.

Actually stupid, Yes.

How could they not have 'generator back up' for the same ???

Add Salman Butt to that list. He has scored 5 centuries against India i guess?

Ishant really sucks.I would like to see Dhawal Kulkarni or Tyagi or someone else to replace him.He is just getting worse and doing no good for India.

With a demanding schedule ahead, I think India should rest all the big guns and should play only the out of form players to give them some chance without any pressure on their back. Also, the new players should get a chance. No point in playing the usual top order of Gauti/Viru/Sachin. I think, the guys down the order or on the bench should get chance to get some runs under the belt. On the same note, Karthik should really hold his place even with Dhoni now available.

Following guys should be rested to give others chance:
Sachin,
Zaheer out Sreesanth in,
Nehra out Tyagi in,
Harbhajan out Ojha in.

I say the following line-up should play, fitness permitting:

Dinesh Karthik
Gautam Gambhir
Suresh Raina
Virat Kohli
Virendar Sehwag (Just to give others a chance)
MS Dhoni
Ravindra Jadeja
Dinda
Pragyan Ojha
Sreesanth
Tyagi

Btw, why the heck is Ishant out of 5th ODI? :doh
