Shastriisms aside, the contest was created more through the foibles of the two teams than by their fortitude. The West Indies fielded well, but needed to clutch those run out chances. There were also a couple of annoying gaps in the field leaking singles, though in the end, when they needed two wickets from one ball, conceding the single was a sensible option. India attacked initially, but as they wore down, they grew increasingly comfortable with the draw. Going into the last two overs, Ashwin could have won the game with just one brazen shot. The way they played at the end, almost paralysed for fear of losing, put them under pressure and almost gave it away anyway.
You do have to appreciate the importance of imperfection though. If the West Indies had batted better, they probably wouldn't have gone for a win at all. There was barely time enough as it was.
