West Indies Tour of Australia 2010

I don't really see who else should be batting at 5, even with Sarwan and Chanderpaul back. Also take that into account when thinking about who they pick in Tests. I think the West Indies would have loved to have Symonds at 5 or 6 in Tests.

Barath
Gayle
Sarwan
Chanderpaul
Nash(tests), Pollard(ODIs)
Bravo
Ramdin/Fletcher
Benn(tests), Mohammed(ODIs)
Taylor
Roach
Edwards

Andre Fletcher has done well in domestic cricket this year and I wouldn't be surprised if Ramdin was dropped sometime soon. Ramdin has been solid with the gloves but his form with the bat has been awful.

WI could implement a rotation policy with the bowlers to keep them from getting injured, just in ODIs.

Didn't Fletcher once open the batting?

And I'm assuming Xavier Marshall is still fail (except against Canada :laugh)

Possible team for Game 5

Marsh
Paine
Ponting
White
Voges
Hussey
Hopes
Smith
Harris
McKay
Bollinger

Pretty boring. Smith probs won't play too, and Hauritz will go in. I doubt Hussey or Ponting will get a rest, both in form and won't play the T20s anyway.

Voges and Hopes will undoubtedly play, the selectors love em. The only other possible change is McKay for Johnson.

I'd also like to see:
Bailey>Voges
M Marsh/Cooper>Hopes

Plus a few young quicks.

But I don't reckon it will happen.

Average 39 in OD and a strike rate of 92? plus a test average of 40...?

Well persistance paid off. It finally clicked for Symonds at age 28 in ODIs and age 31 in Tests. I don't think the Windies want to try Pollard for 5-10 years before it clicks. They might as well bring back Marlon Samuels :p

For Symonds it also helped he was batting at #6 in a powerful lineup. I'd say probably half of his 50s came when the team needed quick runs before a declaration. Off the top of my head: his first 50 v SA at the MCG, 1 definitely at the Gabba maybe 2 against SL the following season, another at the SCG v India in the 2nd innings of that infamous match. I think he only made 8-10 50s in his career. Plus there was the odd helpful not out decision in his 2 centuries ;)

Pollard won't have that luxury of coming in at 4/400. And it'll be a whole different ball game with bat pads, slips and bouncers wizzing around his head.

But I can understand that he's got the potential, it's just way too early to crown him the next big thing in Windies cricket. In my view, Barath and Roach are far more exciting prospects. But they aren't playing so Mark Nicholas has to fawn over somebody.

Didn't Fletcher once open the batting?

Yea he opened 6 times in the 10 ODIs he played. In the other 4 he batted all over the place. His first 4 ODIs were against Australia when he was just 20 and looked out of place a bit. He did score a 50 against the Aussies in the last Champions Trophy.
Carlton Baugh would be ahead of him in tests but in ODIs Fletcher would be the one. That is if the drop Ramdin.

And I'm assuming Xavier Marshall is still fail (except against Canada :laugh)

Not even playing for Jamaica this year. He played 2 games I think and never barely scored any runs.

i thought it was 1 hard to pronounce name. starts with X or something? who was that?

Thats Xavier Marshall, he came in at #3 for a few matches then got dropped for a couple of games and came back in the semi against Sri Lanka and scored a duck.
Was/is a huge talent just not doing anything with it.

Its pronounced

Zavier unless its a person of Latin origin then its pronounced Havier

Simple solution for Smith, rest White who took a blow. Then its Smith time :p
Hopes is an all rounder so you would want to replace him with another one so he can backup Watson or play as the 6th bowler.

He bowled for Victoria sometime last year but bearly used himself. He said hes working on remodeling his action.
