Looks like a 4 pace attack is a definite if Hauritz is ruled out. Although that takes out the effectiveness of Geeves and Ponting is going to get into more trouble with the ICC!

But I can't wait to see who is brought up as backup spinner. Most likely Krejza, the form spinner is McGain or they could throw a bolter like Holland who they seem to rate. They didn't have a problem picking Hauritz from 2nd 11 either so Holland being in 2nd 11 won't effect them too much. Smith is the other who could be flown over for experience.

Wow massive, Steven Smith has been called up. I'm kinda of hoping Hauritz doesn't recover so we can get a good look at Smith. Although would be a bit worried about him doing a McGain especially at the WACA.

Nah with the quality of the WI batsmen, Smith to get his 1st wicket from a low full toss caught at covers by Clarke :happy

Wow, Australia just picked a spinner with a first-class average of 75 that just went for 110 runs of 16 overs.

Strange tbh, very strange.

I'd be embarrassed if Steven Smith made his test debut. Let's face it, he may have potential but any guy with an FC average of above 75 is not Australian test team quality. I'm really confused as to where our selectors are going with all these selections. No one is in top form, but surely you go for a guy who's at least had some international experience like Krejza or even McGain? They're the leading spinners in the Shield this year. Smith has taken 6 wickets from 4 matches this year - how is he worthy of a callup?

Yeah, I just read the article.. Absolute bull, if he debuts then off with the selectors heads. He's a batsman who can bowl average leggies, they may as well recall Cameron White and put him at 8. :facepalm

White's definitely a better batsman and he's probably more of a chance of troubling the Windies batsmen too.

WI haven't called up anyone for anything. I understand not calling up replacements for Brath and Chanders because its the last test so there would be no reason to call them up but when Taylor got hurt there was plenty of time to get someone in and maybe play them in this last test.

Surely Krezja should be the backup spinner, but picking a blonde leg spinner out of the blue with a crap FC average did work in 1992.

It might be a good idea to choose Smith. He looked a good prospect in the Champions Trophy. I think he's better than a FC average of 75. I would certainly like to see him bowl again, so I'm a bit biased. ;)
