West Indies' tour of India (Feb 2022)

So... they decide to reduce the competition to the main set of openers by splitting Ruturaj and Ishan between the two formats (ODI and T20). Ruturaj is selected for ODI while Ishan is selected for T20. Not a bad idea, unless the guys have been informed of the reason why this is being done.

Hooda is a weird choice! From what I see, he doesn't seem to have a great VHT in recent times. Wait wait..... the connection seems to be getting stronger

KL Rahul (vice captain) -> Deepak Hooda (AR) -> Punjab Kings -> Anil Kumble

If this is true, its nice how Ganguly and Dravid get their inputs from Kumble, but they also gotta see how Punjab Kings fared under Kumble, and not take everything out of his basket.

Hooda was one of the best in the SMAT and a disappointment in the VHT funnily enough. He has been selected in the wrong format. Did the selection committee just watch his last game where he was the lone Rajasthani performer and decide that was it? He has bowled only 10 overs across 12 white ball games for Rajasthan this season in just 4 games. Hardly a sixth bowling option.

It gets even better though. Hooda has batted at four throughout this season's VHT and SMAT. Now I know that he can bat lower down the order like for Punjab Kings but this is hardly a ringing endorsement for someone who is clearly being looked at for one role when he plays another in domestic cricket.

Can Deepak Hooda fill Yuvraj Singh's void as Batting all rounder in ODI?

Hooda and Yuvi are not even in the same postcode mate. We haven't found a bloke like him who could bat at four or five and bowl ten overs since he declined.

We do have a couple of Jadeja's. One is Axar and the other is Abhishek Sharma. The latter even opens the batting but yet to prove his worth in competitive Cricket like IPL.

Hardik can.

Let's see this ODI series how Hooda performs as an all rounder.

With both Dhawan and Gaikwad out, and Agarwal unavailable yet, this is the XI I feel will be played:

Rohit
Kishan
Kohli
Surya
Pant
Hooda
Sundar
Thakur/Chahar
Kuldeep/Bishnoi(I doubt)
Siraj
Chahal

Kul-Cha likely to be back I feel.

Any news on India's Covid positive reports? Who are the ones not available for this series? That could be a major influence in selecting the playing XI
