Who are your picks?

You're baseing that on 1 series. Mahmood has fantastic FC stats, great pace and good bounce. If he spends a season or 2 refining his action and getting his control improved he could be very useful. Bowls a mean yorker, and is a very exciting young bowler. Not too shabby with the bat either. He has potential for sure.

I have to agree with Ben Hilfenhaus he has all the abilitys of Matthew Hoggard but he bowls at least 20 kph quicker and from what ive seen can swing the ball with more control

edit: Rabeta, just looked up Mahmood, Far from impressive, very poor stats, maybe he has potential though- at 22 though he hasnt got much time to improve. He should have much better figures for someone his age if he really is as talented as you say he is

He is 25, which means he hasn't got too long to improve, but another 2 seasons, as long as his fitness improves means that he can still go on to 32, another 5 years. A short, sharp burst in international cricket could still be good for England, just look at Jones. In the end of the day, the Ashes was his only really excellent series, and look what that did for England. His contribution helped the Ashes campaign dramatically.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and pick a couple of kids:

Sam Northeast - Kent. Seems to be a good player but the next 4 to 5 years will determine

James Harris - Glamorgan. Has been a thread on him already in here. Think he has the basics to do well, again time will tell.

Adam Coyte. His my age & captain of Australian u16s team & he lives in a suburb about half an hour away from me. Never seen him play, never met him probably cause I only moved to NSW 2 years ago & never got the chance to play junior cricket with him like all of the guys I play cricket with now got the chance to do. Been told his a beast. Although may be injury prone.

There's another guy called Ben Smith whose got big raps on him. Only 13 I think, but I think his trying out for the same grade team as me this season (I'm 16) & he made 180 odd in a rep match last season while playing up a year.

I'd also like to throw my name into contention aswell. Although I might not make it, I'd still like to give some of the poms on this forum some stick. ;)

Apart from that, KP will go onto be one of the greatest batsman ever. Cook will be a great opening batsman (ala Sunil Gavaskar). Don't know about much others.

I meant Tariq Mahmood, you siad he was your main pick. But i looked at his stats and they were far from impressive. Saj has good stats, in FC cricket anyway.

I'd chirp you out from the behind the sticks while Matt sends 'em down at you :p

Truth be told, I do have an Aussie in my team who is actually rather good. For an Aussie at least. ;)

I still have to wood on him though!

Yeah, that's why I said that he has been off the rails recently, but where there's potential, there's always potential.

saj mahmood has decidedly average FC stats.. 126 wickets @ 31.67, and really was such a poor performer, one of the more disappointing fast bowlers england has produced in recent times.

Considering Hoggy bowls at about 78Mph, you're suggesting Hilfenhaus bowls at around 90MPH, when I saw him bowl for Australia he was 84MPH. He's a talent, I'm a little surprised he hasn't donned the Baggy Greens more often though.

Oh yeah forgot Sam Northeast. I picked him in a similar thread a good 6-8 months ago. He played against my club in a Bunbury game, looks a top bat.
