Why do they.. You ever noticed that 99% of keepers have long sleeves? Why the hell do they?

Because they are close to the wickets and if the ball hits their bare arms it would kill?

Just a guess, but that's my thought.

Yeah I thought maybe it's because when they dive they don't scrape their arms.. But I did a bit of keeping when I was younger and I didn't see why.

It couldn't be for protection against the ball.. Batsman are just as likely to be hit and they have short sleeves usually.

And arm guards?

Only like 10% of batters wear arm guards though..

Maybe they don't want to get cold? It's not all leaps and dives out there and your team is kinda screwed if your keeper gets tight and cramped.

Cricket is played in the summer. If you are wicket keeping, you are NOT going to get cold in 25-45 degree heat. When you exercise, your body warms UP, so if anything, it would be warmer. (Unless a breeze is caught under the sleeves). Going by that logic, bowlers, batsman hell even fielders would be waring long sleeves as to keep warm.

I think Feelin Blue? has the most accurate answer so far.. I think it might just be tradition.. or it looks cool.

Maybe because they want to put there gloves over there shirt instead of on there skin if you get what im saying.

Isn't it obvious, they keep a trick bunch of flowers up their sleeves and are waiting for the perfect time to produce them in a comedy fashion. Mark my words, that day will come ;)

Brendan McCullum is the only one I can think of who wears short sleeves.

I'm really curious.. there must be a reason.

well the other day they showed mark boucher during a drink break pull up his sleaves and change arm gaurds.

Wait.. so they have arm guards?!?!?

i would imagine they do, it would hurt if one hit you on the elbow. But not all of them would, i mean not all Batsmen wear arm guards.
