Why do keepers wear long sleeves?

I think it has more to do with tradition than anything. Most goalkeepers in football use long sleeves as well. It's just the done thing.

Yeh McCullum is the only current int'l keeper i can think of that doesnt do this.

Maybe its because of his tank forearms? have u seen those guns?

Not really. I can think of Casillas, Buffon, Reina (sometimes) who are all world class and there are lots of others. I'd say like 4 in ten goal keepers wear short sleeves and like 1 in 20 keepers wear short sleeves.
