Riz Khan was in superb form with the bat as PlanetCricket maintained their perfect start to the tour of West Indies with a comfortable 4-wicket win over Windies in Rylcleat. The visitors always looked on target for a third victory in as many games after some devastating late hitting from Darren Sammy and Shiv Chanderpaul helped them to 203 for eight batting first. PlanetCricket's bowlers had done well to rein in Windies after an initial onslaught from the openers, but Chanderpaul helped his side take 62 from the final 20 deliveries as he finished unbeaten on 80 from 65 balls.
West Indies threatened to post a challenging total after losing the toss. They lost openers Simmons and Devon Smith with 45 on the board and by the end of the 10th over had scored 52 while suffering a further setback, the dismissal of Edwards. By then Windies were left relying heavily on Shiv Chanderpaul to sustain them. The acting vice-captain was not found wanting in determination but the accuracy of the PlanetCricket bowling ensured he was able to break free. Indeed, he managed nine boundaries from his 54 deliveries as he top-scored with 80. Chanderpaul departed when trying to force the pace against spinner Singh as Riz Khan took a fine low catch at midwicket. He was the only batsman in the top seven to get beyond 50 until Thomas, who struck four boundaries of the innings, went on to make 31. All six bowlers used by PlanetCricket got among the wickets, with Narayan and Chiyyodu picking up 4-63 and 2-61 respectively.
Replying to a total of 303 for eight, the hosts claimed success with more than 5 balls to spare. It was not all plain sailing at the start of their innings, however. On a pitch that encouraged the batters, run-making was easy and PlanetCricket posted 70 without a wicket in 10 overs lost before the 50 was raised. Without having to take risks, they kept the scoreboard ticking over at just under six an over while adding 66 to take the total to 113. Their stand was broken when Dongre fell to right-arm pace Russell while Gurupur drove fast-pace Sammy to mid-on where Rampaul held a fine catch. Singh, having made 42 from 52 balls that included five fours and one six, despatched Rampaul to mid-off. Riz Khan and Varun Nair, with 23 and 16 not out respectively, made sure victory was claimed without further problems, while Sammy finished with 2-63 from ten overs.
Nair departed for 62 when when Chanderpaul had him caught by Simmons, but with Riz in touch PlanetCricket reached 250 in the 42th over - the same stage Windies passed the mark. Whereas Bhatta stepped up another couple of gears, Bhatta could not, as he also perished to Rampaul shortly after removing Nair. Earlier, they made a blistering start to their innings. Riz and Nair flayed the Windies attack in the initial overs as they scored at more than nine an over in a devastating 99-run stand. Nair was particularly brutal, smashing 62 from 48 balls, but his dismissal slowed the rate as PC lost two wickets for 17 runs. Riz looked equally at ease in racing to a 64-ball fifty, but he was smashed for 59. The hosts had just passed 300 in the 47th over when Narayan scored a quick-fire 17 from 5 balls, clearing the boundary on three occasions in what proved a decisive late charge.
