World Cup 2007 - Preview thread

I know thats good news.
Hopefully,i'd be able to catch some Indian Cricket in Barbados.
Expecting to be there next year.

Don't be so sure bro...
Like I have said earlier, New Zealand is very very underrated, they have an excellent ODI team, don't look past them.
Sri Lanka's revival cannot be overlooked either, Jawaradene has finally lived up to his potential, and long with him Sangakarra, who keeps showing us why he is so damn good. With these two, theres Jayasuria, he can score runs, and quick. Sri Lanka are a big threat.
And ofcourse, the home team, Sarwan, Lara, Gayle, and Chanderpaul are 4 very very good batsmen, lets not forget how they delt with India on home soil! (Although I want to! )

Any of these teams have a very realistic shot.

I agree New Zealand will be the dark horse...

and these other teams will be challenging, but I just cant see them going in the semi finals..maybe Sri Lanka instead of South Africa, but not too sure YET.

Anything can happen at the World Cup, South Africa were eliminated in the first round at home after going in as co favourites with Australia. Then you had Kenya and Zimbabwe in the Super 6, who would have picked that? And then Kenya in the Semi Finals of a World cup!

yea..u are right. I think this world cup will be even more unpredictable. Aussies are still the best, but anyone will agree they are not as good as last time, so they will get challenged. And then with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, they have a good chance too b/c conditions of westindies will be similar to that of subcontinent.
Then you have South Africa and New Zealand who are also really good ODI teams and can never be counted out. Sad thing is New Zealand hardly ever play cricket these days so you dont know what to expect
I hope though that teams like Kenya dont make it to semi's again! that would be boring.
But every team has a really good chance this time around.

That is exactly right, However, this next season for us is packed full of ODI's.

Tests though, we have hardly any. I can understand that this year and think it will be a good thing for us, but even afterwald, we play nowhere near as many tests as Australia, England, India, etc.

NZ just love ODI cricket, it's good for the public down here too. It's just the state of cricket NZ is in as a few years ago test cricket was NZ big hit but now that is down the drain and ODI cricket is now the hit.

England is very underrated for mind, they have enough talent to match it with the best (well they match it with us). Bowling is their problem but in Flintoff and KP they have the hitters to get them a target.

aha, the'v been on 3rd-4rth on IC ODI tables for long enough now, the'll get Semi-Final's if not final.

I'm going for south africa in this world cup... there ODI side is evolving and have great fielders such as gibbs and AB. They also beat australia but we'll have to wait and see how the perform in this tri series. I hope england do well but i don't expect it.

To be honest I don't think anybody deserves this World Cup title more than South Africa.

Which according to you is the group of death ?

Group A - Australia, South Africa,Scotland,Holland

Group B - India,Sri Lanka,Bermuda,Bangladesh

Group C - England,New Zealand,Kenya,Candada

Group D - Pakistan,West Indies,Ireland,Zimbabwe

I actually dont think that we have a groups of death.Maybe things can trun around in B,C & D if Bangladesh,Kenya and Zimbabwe change.I feel if we have a full-strength Zimbabwe,then Group D will definately be more competitive.
