There are undoubtedly some good players here, but this might have been my test team 2 or 3 years ago. A lot of the players have retired or aren't at their best.

Not trying to insult you but half that team is either retired (Hayden), been injured for long (Lee), Akhtar or woefully out of form (Kallis). That doesn't look like a current world XI

Weird teams. No Vettori in either is bad. He's the best allrounder in the world at the moment.

I actually never thought about playing him as a all-rounder. Makes more sense to do that and play Murali as the specialist spinner.

Well he's averaging 49.8 with that bat over the last year, can't think of any other all-rounder that's going that well with the bat. Not to bad of a bowling average either, 28.36 with 46 wickets.

vettori does need to put himself up the order, I can't think of a reason why he doesn't seeing as it's his call now. He obviously works on his batting a lot, so it can't be because he sees himself as an out and out specialist spinner.

I don't want to say this because I have a lot of respect for him, but could there be an element of fear? if he put himself at 6 he'd have to start performing with the bat rather than just optionally chipping in, no ones going to blame the no.8 if he gets out on 20, the no.6 has a lot more responsibility. I do remember him being criticised for underbowling himself as captain (dunno if this was domestic or in one off tests before he took on full time, maybe I'm wrong) so that would be consistent with him being afraid to promote himself.

Do you call an average of 61.5 this year in 5 test matches chipping in! He has scored those runs at a strike rate in excess of 60 and has picked up 2 hundreds and 2 fifties. :doh
Some how on those stats I DON'T THINK he is CHIPPING IN!!!:noway

Yea I see what you're saying and I've heard a lot of people ask this over the last year or so. Tbh I have no idea why he doesn't move himself up the order, even seven would be a lot better I feel.

no, but as long as it's at 8 there is an element of it being optional, as I said, no one will blame a no.8 for making a low score or throwing away his wicket while set. he needs to go the imran khan way and put himself in a position of responsibility, imo, he's being a bit harsh on guys like franklin making him bat at 6 where there is more pressure, despite the fact he's doing a lot better with the bat.

Ok mate now I get your point. I tend to agree but then also disagree. He has moved up the order at different times through out his career though. The simple fact is he averages over 42 at 8 so he probably wants to stay there. It is not his fault that his top order batsmen aren't doing their job.
