World Test Team

Good to see Sakib in the test team. Hope he makes the Banglas proud (Just not against India :p)

Yeah, it's nice to see a Bangladesh player in one. Even if he's not as good as Vettori it's good to reward him for playing well the past year. I don't like the side's balance. Leaving Murili out seems silly and Harbhijan shouldn't be 12th man. Broad is horrible and shouldn't be in the side. Seems to be like it's based purely on one bowling performance. Anyone who selects a guy with a career bowling average of 36 is on crack.

I dunno these sides always irritate me. They seem to be heavily biased on the last few months of the year and not on the year as a whole.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know how much stats they use, but I don't think the teams are as good as they could be. But then again, opinion comes into everything, if there is two players you are tossing up between, opinion can resolve it. Almost everyone who did it would get a different team, depending on what they have seen, their opinion on the players, and the stats available. Also, country bias comes into it, making most teams different.

Yeah I agree mostly. Still, the sides seem pretty close to decent. I made a few changes, but none of the original selections are particularly bad except maybe Broad but I replaced him with Siddle who was hardly earth shatteringly awesome either.

My Test side for the ICC Awards would have been (my replacements have the *):
Gambhir
Strauss
*Sangakkara (c)
Samaraweera
Clarke
*Dilshan (adds to bowling too)
*Haddin (wk)
Johnson
*Swann
Steyn
*Siddle
12th - Shakib

Sorry Sachin, AB, Broad, Dhoni and Harbhajan.

Gautam Gambhir
Andrew Strauss
AB De Villiars
Sachin Tendulkar
Michael Clarke
Thilan Samarweera
MS Dhoni*
Sakib Al Hasan
Mitch Johnson
Dale Steyn
Muttiah Muralitharan
12: Vettori

Not overly happy but I think it's a good team.

Wanted Danny in the playing XI but went with Murali since the lack of an aggressive spinner would make it a pale attack. And Sakib was staying no matter what. :p

Gautam Gambhir (Recent form speaks for itself)
Tillakaratne Dilshan (Moved up the order to open the batting, averaged 92.33 against NZ, he plays a very talented aggressive role)
Ricky Ponting * (His performances this year have been very good)
Michael Clarke (As with Gambhir, his form speaks for itself)
Mahela Jayawardene (Has done brilliantly recently, in his last five Test series has averaged 82, 33, 97, 50 and 69)
MS Dhoni + (Best wicket keeper/batsman at the moment)
Daniel Vettori (Economical bowler with lots of talent, very handy with the bat)
Mitchell Johnson (He isn't the ICC World Player for nothing, taking 30+ more wickets than next best)
Dale Steyn (One of the best fast bowlers I have personally seen for a while)
Peter Siddle (He's taken wickets against SA and England and done really well this year, I'm excited for his future)
Ajantha Mendis (Has taken 42 wickets in 9 matches, many batsman struggle to play him)

12th Man: Shakib Al Hasan (One of Bangladesh's best prospects, has performed really well)

Comments?

Shakib selected as the Wisden Test Player of the Year. i didnt even know what the hell that was till just now...

he has taken 45 wickets at 23 with his left-arm spin, including five five-fors. Add to that 498 runs at 35.57 and he already has the kind of allrounder figures that Andrew Flintoff could only have dreamed of – not bad for a 22-year-old.

1 Shakib Al Hasan (B) 8 7.94
2 Gautam Gambhir (I) 8 7.63
3 Graeme Smith (SA) 7 7.21
4 Sachin Tendulkar (I) 9 7.00
= Jacques Kallis (SA) 8 7.00
6 Ben Hilfenhaus (A) 8 6.94
7 Andrew Flintoff (E) 8 6.88
= Dale Steyn (SA) 8 6.88
9 Fidel Edwards (WI) 8* 6.81
10 Andrew Strauss (E) 13* 6.77

props to him. He had a great year for Bangladesh and it should do good for their cricket.

This side is mostly just on form. a World XI should be consistent form and class above all. Class being that the XI would be exactly the same for your TEST,ODI AND PRO20 TEAM. Lets look at the best team 1990-2010 which is in my era at the moment.

1. M Hayden
2. S Tendulkar
3. R Ponting
4. B Lara
5. I Ul-Haq
6. J Kallis
7. A Gilchrist
8. S Warne
9. W Akram
10. A Donald
11. G McGrath (And Yes you beat Alan for Jack)

12 man Jonty Rhodes (The best fielder plus he is fit enought to run from fine to fine to carry the drinks:) )

You guys can fight about who is captain and who is the opening bowlers...

Adam Gilchrist +
Sachin Tendulkar
Ricky Ponting
Brian Lara
Jaques Kallis
Michael Bevan
Lance Klusener
Wasim Akram
Muttiah Mularitharan
Alan Donald
Glenn McGrath
