WorldWide Spinners?

Rashids only had 6 list A games, exactly the same reason Monty doesn't do well in them for England, lets hope he gets a few more in before he gets near England and hopefully he can get that average to somewhere around 30, after all he should only be picked if he's the best player for the position.

India has plenty of resources in Kumble, Harbhajan, Karthik, Powar and Chawla. All are very capable, and except Kumble, still have got many years of cricket left.

Even Sehwag is pretty good.

rashid and Chawla are the two best young spinners ive seen, chawla is more of the finished article at the moment as rashid can sometimes bowl too wide and get punished for it, but rashid is a very promising batsman as well

Don't underestimate Chawla's batting, he's a very fine stroke maker on his day.

Not as many good ones as their was 5 years ago...

The world's spin talent seems to have dropped a bit.
What are you about? Its the same, if not better then what it was 5 years ago. Just because you dont see Warne on that list it makes it look poor. I think we have the most spinners from any cricket era.

Hogg was awful vs India, can't see him playing Tests again.
If Clarke and Symonds didn't do so well, we wouldn't really be batting an eyelid. Panesar, Vettori, Kaneria, Warne and MacGill all average greater than 40 against India. Murali averages 32, but 40 in India, a testament to helpful home grounds.

you should add Johan Botha to the list , he gets more spin as Harris but Botha is less acurate....

There seems to be a paucity of quality spinners in world cricket these days.
Kumble and Murali won`t be around for long.

Kaneria and Singh have`nt proved to be the threat they were once touted to be.
I believe Panesar and Vettori might be the only one from the current generation who`ll be around for sometime.
I strongly believe that Harbhajan should not be anywhere near our Test side.

Piyush Chawla would be the one to watch out for. His wickets of KP and Collingwood in England showed that he has the promise.

Sri Lanka should have persisted with Bandara. Murali`s presence has in fact not allowed other spinners to grow in Sri Lankan cricket as is the case with Indian cricket.
Chandana was a wasted talent IMO as he did not get too many chances for a decent period of time.
With Murali around, Sri Lanka have got the work done with part-time spinners like Dilshan but they may not be half as effective with Murali not being around.

Another point that I have noticed is that off-spin as a specialized form is now slowly dying.
Most off-spinners who play cricket currently are all batting-allrounders.
Only Murali and Harbhajan are specialized offies playing Intl cricket these days.
Harbhajan isn`t a quality offie anymore.
Most sides get the work done with part-time offies like Gayle,Samuels,Shoaib Malik,Dilshan,Symonds etc.

ODI cricket has killed the art of spin in world. Nowdays spinner just bowl flat and try to be economical. Infact as a spinner you have more chance to take wickets when batters are attacking and leg spinners can never achieve the control of Warnie. He is once in generation cricketer.

No bro you can't put Botha higher than Harris...Harris was Fantastic against pakistan..He took more wickets there than D kaneria in that serise..
and i am still surprise why Smith always get Botha with him:p

What about Patel from NZ. He isn't too bad and not a bad death bowler though he got a hammering from Dimmi.

EDIT: When i mean what about Patel i mean his chances at test cricket...

Does not have variety to trouble top class players at Test level. Hes good steady ODI bowler but Test matches are diffrent cup of tea. Though Vettori might look good but hes not got flattering test match stats as well.

I agree with you. At this stage, Patel won't do so well in test cricket. The good thing is he's still young and can continue to learn and improve. Probably won't get a decent crack for a looooong time unless Vettori breaks down or our selectors drive him away to the ICL.
