You've been Warnered!

Warner>Tendulkar. Oh Basil.

Are u serious?

Anyway, it is true that a few failures are not enough to drop someone. But it is also true that few initial success gaurantee a great player. Here are 2 examples. Ever heard of Vinod Kambli and Shahi Afridi. These two have treid their best to waste their talent. Shahid afridi scored 37 ball hundred in his second ODI and Vinod Kambli Scored two double centuries in his debut test series at the age of 19. Now everyone knows what happened to these.

Also, it is not necessary that great players have great starts. Sachin and Ponting both are regarded as the best batsmen in world cricket. but it took 80 odd ODI's for tendulkar to score his first 100. And Ponting has peaked only after 2002 though he had debuted in 96 or 97.

I am not starting any comparison between players. All i am trying to say is that it is too early to draw any conclusion on Warner. Give him 2 years. After then we can see how he had performed,as by then he would have played against most of the oppositions.

Were you guys criticizing Tendulkar after his 2 failures?

Mate we knew what this kid could do, he had a tonne of class and records before even stepped onto the test arena. It was only matter of time before he fired. Meanwhile there's Warner who has literally has no background and can only be judged game by game. It wont be too long before he get overlooked in ODI's if he doesnt make his mark there. Im pretty sure hell be a regular in t20/20's for rest of his career.

This isn't the Test arena though. Warner is playing ODI cricket and in the ODI arena Tendulkar debut at 16. So in that sense Tendulkar also had literally no background and can only be judged game by game.

Oh come on, if he had the temperament in Tests how easy would that be to turn in ODI's or at least he had Tests to prove himself.

According to cricinfo his debut in FC/OD in 1989 and he was playing ODI/Test cricket in the same season. Now I have seen what he was playing back in the day, and most of his matches are u17 or u19. He played less than 10 games in Ranji Trophy and Deodhar Trophy before making his international debut. So I don't see how you are saying Warner has no background when Tendlukar has played less games in the national comp than Warner before making their respective international debuts.

There is a reason as to why he played so less domestic cricket. Once he was dominating U17s/19s he was quickly moved onto domestic in which he succeeded again at such young age and was naturally picked in national team from all his previous performances and consistency. Hence Tendulkar made his way up passing all the hurdles before entering the national team.

You must be joking.

Because Tendulkar was making pileload of runs in the FC matches that he played in and it became virtually impossible to ignore his talent and run making skills and was drafted into the team. He took his place in test team purely on merit and performance.

Warner has played how many FC matches? NIL

That's the difference.

Why does every thread on both Web and Planet turn into a Tendulkar vs the world thrad.

Imposstible.

Lol what on earth are you on about. I never said Tendulkar didn't deserve to be in the side, if you read my post rather than jumping every time Tendulkar is mentioned then you will see "So I don't see how you are saying Warner has no background when Tendlukar has played less games in the national comp than Warner before making their respective international debuts."
Where on earth did I ask you to tell me the difference between the two?

And what does FC have to do with ODI? FC goes for 4 days, ODI are for 1 day, 100 over a match not 400+ overs. Have I missed something, has FC suddenly become ODI? Warner performed in OD and hence was picked for the ODI team just like someone that performs in FC will be picked for Test. Yes it would be great if he played FC but he hasn't live with it.

Not sold yet.

Needs a few more solid innings.

And a defensive shot.

haha how dare u insult indias god by comparing warner to tendulkar

Haha no worries i understood what u were trying to say.
U were saying its too hard to judgw if he will be any good or no good after just a few games.
Just because he failed early doesnt mean he will be no good.
Just look at other now stars first few games records an theres prob wasnt very good either.
Also doesnt mean he will go on to be a big star we dont know.

All we do know is if he keeps playing hes going to provide us with some good entertainment whether its a quick 15 or a quick 50+

I have no idea. One day I look in this thread and it was a discussion of whether Warner had what it took, the next day people are trying to compare Sachin and Warne...
