Zimbabwe Triangular Series 2010

Damn good job Zimby. Any kind of win over India is going to be a huuuge morale boost for them.

Upset from the bookies point of view. But its not the upset where you get embarassed about. I frankly dont mind even if we dont win a single game in this tri-series.

Agreed that its not a huge or massive upset, but still an upset.

Lol, Indians second string side doesn't look too formidable at all.
The moment you take our Sachin, Gambhir, Sehwag, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Harbhijan, and Zaheer they have no decent players.
I guess the got a few decent batsmen coming through, but outside Harbhijan and Zaheer who both aren't even world class they got absolutely nothing in the bowling department.
I've heard of all there top eight, but AB Dinda, R Vinay Kumar, and U Yadav???
Yes I don't follow the pathetically crap IPL, but I have seriously never heard of these three guys.

Good on Zimbabwe for getting up and winning, TBH I feel they are slightly stronger than Bangladesh and it will good if they can get back into the test match frame soon.
They got some explosive players with the bat, as well as some top of the line spinners, I don't see why five to ten years down the track they can't be competitive with top sides.
Yes it was a second string Indian side and I'm not getting to carried away, but I do think that Zimbabwe have more potential to be competitive than the likes of Bangladesh, and this is following on from there T20 upsets in the warm-ups at the world cup.

I agree, they have looked great recently, first some upsets in the World T20 warmups, and now this. Their confidence will be really high at the moment, and I agree, they are probably better than Bangaldesh at the moment.

The main thing stopping them going further is their government, which means that they won't be playing England, Australia or NZ any time soon I don't think.

Was there a speedgun? How fast was Yadav bowling?

hMarka added 0 Minutes and 57 Seconds later...

Zimbabwe Bangla Test match might actually be very thrilling

Even a Zimbabwe vs West Indies test series would be good, or a Zimbabwe/West Indies/Bangladesh one-day tri-series.

Pakistan vs West Indies would be a great Test series, Probably 20-40 dropped catches

Id say low 80s then probably. We have guys in USA club cricket who bowl 80-82 consistently :laugh

I saw Yadav touching 90mph in IPL, will be interesting to see how long he can maintain that intensity. Hopefully more than 4 overs

We are also forgetting the fact that it wasn't just the bowling that let the team down. We were given around 30 extras from Zimbabwe side. This indeed implies --> Our total score was just around 250 which is just a marginal score considering our batting strength.

Jadeja/Sharma innings shouldn't overshadow the batting weakness where we failed to exploit & dominate the opponent's bowling. Leave those bowlers alone, lets give them time to learn some international cricket. Not everyone can gain the fame - genius or superstar in their very first step.

Remember that Yadav and Vinay Kumar were making their debuts. Dinda has played only one game. They have no experienced bowler in the side to take help (tips/advice) from. The whole team being a second string side does not have any experienced hand to go to on the field. This series will see how the likes of Raina, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli etc mature. Rohit scored a hundred, and Raina scored too. But sterner tests lie ahead. I am definitely interested in watching more of this. Wish our seniors are rested even for the Asia Cup. Let these boys develop!

I think India and SL have done right thing by resting most of their best players, this is like an A tour for them where their young domestic players can get a taste of international cricket and if Zimbabwe can win some matches in this tournament or even make the finals it will be a great confidence booster for them as well.

It's not gonna be a dull series for sure cause all the 3 teams have good chances of making the finals. By the way how's the reaction in the Indian media? Especially Star News :D

Typical 'Binnu' post. Putting almost all blame on Srikanth, Chennai and Tamilians.
Well, I don't put any blame on Tamilians or Chennai. I put the total blame on Sri Kanth, Chennai Super Kings and Tamil Nadu Squad:yes. I like Chennai and the culture which Tamil Nadu has:yes! But I agree, I don't like the climate of Chennai, which is of no use ATM.

Dont lift Virat Kohli too much. He is a good prospect, but it doesnt necessarily mean that the guy who lifted the U-19 World Cup for us would do the same in intl level. Mohd Kaif who also lifted the U-19 WC once for us, is now nowhere (he just had a good 2-3 yrs in Indian cricket as a batsman).
He (Kaif) din't had any opportunities like what Virat has ATM. Whenever he (Kaif) played, Ganguly was captain and the selectors din't even had have (Even now, but after the series against Bangladesh, they got to know) an idea of sending a second level team to the tours against minnows. And now, Virat is far better captain than Suresh Raina. Not that Raina is bad, he's a good captain. But Virat > Raina, which means Virat has to be given captaincy. Raina din't even captain his Ranji team Uttar Pradesh yet:yes. He got a golden opportunity to lead CSK when Dhoni was injured. Luckily, he won two matches by having advices from Hayden, Morkel, Dhoni and all those big names in CSK. But have a look at Virat. No one knew how the opponent would be in Under 19 World cup. You cannot estimate player when he plays his first professional game of his life (which generally under 19 players do. They might have played few matches before, but you cannot know how actually he plays). Atleast Raina knows how Zimbabweans, and players of IPL (against whom, he captained) play. But Kohli din't knew how players like Rilee Rossouw, Wayne Parnell, Darren Bravo, etc etc perform when he was leading India in U-19.

Dhoni's first assignment as ODI captain against Australia started off poorly too. First match was rained off after Australia posted 306, and the 2nd match too, Australia posted 305 and we lost by some 70 odd runs. And this series was played in India which is our stronghold area (we are always supposed to do better in Indian conditions).

I agree with you here. One cannot be estimated with just one game. So, better test Raina by making him lead Uttar Pradesh & North Zone in Ranji and Duleep Trophy Respectively like how Dhoni was tested by assigning the skipper charges for T20 World Cup. Dhoni was made captain for T20's (which India thought was of no use:yes) before he was assigned as Indian regular captain. (This clearly proves that he was tested if he could work out as captain or not:yes) But Retirement of Dravid as captain made selectors give Dhoni a chance as he did prove himself when he won the World Cup for us.

Making Raina lead the team is something like making Mallaya & his son play for RCB straight away:laugh. First, when I herd that Raina is gonna lead the team, I just laughed out loudly as if it was a joke. But later I got to know that is Cheeka and his Super Kings, who played the drama. And Cheeka is Paying for it right now:laugh.
Selecting players like Murali Vijay ahead of Robin Uthappa, its great (:sarcasm) IMO.
All Hail Cheeka and his Men:sarcasm

From what I've seen in domestic, he can maintain the speed over a period of time. However, he didn't look that fast yesterday...to me. Even without the speed guns. He was faster than Vinay and Dinda, and he hurried the batsmen a few times, but generally he didn't look as fast as he did in IPL. Another thing people need to note...Yadav's not played a lot of domestic cricket yet. Just 11 FC matches, averaging 21, and his averages in the shorter formats aren't good(40 in List A and 36 in T20s). Yet another bowler who seems great at the longer format and not that great at the shorter ones.

@ Binnu - Of course Raina isn't a great captain, but he's the only one with a safe place in the team - so he'd be the obvious choice for captain.
