IPL Chennai Super Kings | #WhistlePodu

He is not a good T20 bowler.Poor fielder too.
We have option in this auction.
Ashwin is highest wicket taker of India in T20I

Ashwin is highest wicket taker of India in T20I

But his recent form matters.
And it's a headache for Captain to select a player who played his last IT20 long time ago.Ashwin must need to concentrate on TEST cricket.

Markram's T20 record looks pretty impressive. 125+ SR is pretty good. If CSK can get him at the top of the order, it would be awesome.

CSK should look to get the following Indian guys, who can strengthen the lineup:

- Rahul Tripathi: If CSK can get him, it would be amazing. Tripathi showed in the last IPL what he can do at the top of the order. And also, Tripathi played for Pune, where MS Dhoni also played in the last IPL. So Dhoni must know Tripathi's game by now, having seen it from very close quarters and having shared dressing room with him. Having a solid Indian opener at the top of the order should be the hallmark of any strong team and that's how Pune rode into the finals last year.

- Washington Sundar: I would say CSK should not go too deep to get back Ashwin. With Sundar in the battleground right now, its time CSK let go of Ashwin and find a new offspinner. Sundar is a Tamil guy too like Ashwin (the local connect factor). Sundar is a lot more agile/athletic than Ashwin (huge factor for T20) and as good as Ashwin was with his bowling was when he started off. The fact that Smith/Dhoni went to Sundar for opening the bowling in the last IPL says the story. With age by his side, he should be an obvious pick for CSK.

- Dinesh Karthik: Another Chennai based guy for whom CSK should go hard on. Karthik has been a hefty buy in previous IPL seasons but might have fallen a bit in the attractive stakes. But he has two big advantages on his side, 1) he is another solid wicketkeeper batsman like Dhoni, 2) he is a solid captaincy material. With MS Dhoni possibly having only a few more years (maybe 2-3 years) of top flight cricket left in him and Raina not showing positive signs of handling captaincy well, maybe it would be best to have Karthik as MSD's deputy. And with Karthik being a local boy, it would be ideal for the city franchise to have a local boy being groomed as the next captain. However if Karthik is too expensive (he is still a very valued T20 player), then CSK might have to let him go since their purse is only 47 crores.[DOUBLEPOST=1515342429][/DOUBLEPOST]
Where is Ashwin ??

If emotions can be discarded for Ashwin (I know emotions were not discarded for Dhoni and Raina), then I think Ashwin will likely have a hard time being picked at the auction this year. If emotion is not discarded, then Ashwin will be selected by CSK. I doubt any other side will go for him considering that he is overlooked for India's current ODI and T20 squads.

Mr.Cricket (Mike Hussey) joined as batting coach of CSK for VIVO IPL 11.Thats special!

Great news. Hussey with Fleming (most likely; CSK have said they are not looking beyond Fleming as of now) will form a very good combination. If only we can get someone solid as a bowling coach, we should be all set.

Not the best squad on paper if you compare to other teams, but still very good. Plus With all the veterans CSKians in the side (except for Ashwin) I think CSK will do great in this season also.

Most probably and in my opinion playing XI will be; (Not familiar with the new local boys though)

At the end of the day, CSK have way too many choices to pick when it comes to this season and it's very hard to pick a first XI with so many options to have. But here is what I think would be ideal for CSK to pick:

Note: Spinners are marked in green; Seamers are marked in red

At Chepauk (if turning pitch) and other turning pitches

Vijay
Watson/FaF
Raina
Dhoni
Jadhav
Billings/Watson
Bravo
Jadeja
Harbhajan
Tahir/Santner

Chahar/Thakur

On Flat Pitches

Vijay
Watson/FaF
Raina
Dhoni
Jadhav
Billings/Watson
Bravo
Jadeja
Harbhajan

Chahar/Thakur
Ngidi/Wood

On Seamer Friendly Pitches

Vijay
Watson/FaF
Raina
Dhoni
Rayudu
Jadhav
Bravo
Jadeja
Chahar/Thakur
Wood
Ngidi

--------------------
Billings should bat in the lower middle order to provide the big hitting flourish towards the end of the innings. Watson or FaF should open the innings with Vijay. Jadhav is good for turning or flat pitches. But if we encounter a seamer friendly pitch, I would play Rayudu in place of Jadhav.

Frankly, I am quite excited about CSK's pace attack this season. Ngidi and Wood both have very good pace and come with lot of promise (esp. Wood, who has done well in BBL). Also Deepak Chahar is the leading wicket taker in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy with 19 wickets and an economy of 5.58. And Shardul Thakur has always been a promising prospect and is constantly in the fringes of India team selection waiting for a permanent opportunity. We might not have got Unadkat or Stokes or other big name seamers but I think we have picked smart guys who have high probability of causing surprises come the tournament.

So Srinivisan will work his magic and get 5 overseas spot.
