ATI Radeon X2900 XT Vs Geforce 8800GTS (2900XT = Winner)

I am just waiting for Radeon HD 2900 XTX to release

It has already been released basically. The only difference is 1 Gig of Mem and its GDDR4. Its still called the 2900xt, just a 1 gig version. However it has proved to be the same speed or slower than the 2900xt 512mb version. This is mainly due to the tight timings used in GDDR3. It only pulls ahead at insane resolutions. If you search google you will probably find a review of 2900xt 512mb Vs 2900xt 1 Gig.

An early test of the HIS Radeon HD 2900 PRO 512MB

Looks like the 2900 Pro almost eats the 8800 GTS 320 MB alive. Should it sound like a worthy future investment for one?

This card is going to be extremely popular amongst users, the simple fact is that for the money there really is no better bang for buck and the current overclocking potential is beginning to look very positive. The card is actually that good that it forces the HD 2900 XT to lose some of its bang for buck due to just how close the PRO performs to the XT.

........

I?m kind of baffled by the PRO as well as being somewhat speechless (or should that be typeless?) - While it looked like it could perform great at first glance, the fact that it actually does is kind of mind blowing. It?s been a while since we have seen an AMD card come out and hit us like this.

However better performance is given by Nvidia cards they can never match the image quality of ATI cards and if gfx are not good how can you enjoy even a super smooth game.

One thing that you guys must understand is that ATI products have come out much much much later than Nvidia's and they have had ample time, plus its pretty damn obvoius they would only release something better than the nvidia cards, and moreover, they could judge that how much performance is nvidia giving and then just somehow make it better. The product coming out before always suffer. Why do you think the HD2900XTX has been delayed / cancelled ? Probably because they failed to beat the ultra with it and its being restructured. Thats how it happens - newer products have to be better performing.

Thats pretty much spot on, something went wrong with the XTX, so it became the XT.

There can be two reasons i think. First is that they failed to make such a "wonder" chip in 65nm :p And another and the one with more probability is that the card failed to beat the performance level of the Ultra, so AMD decided against releasing it for the moment. They would probably be waiting for another NVidia line to come up i think, so they can wear the performance crown after optimising their card against the nvidia's new horse.
