More than casual or T20 craze its about time i guess, Its more of a fun day out thats worth the buck, than for watching the best cricket, infact test cricket is great on TV than in stadium in lots of ways.

Watching test cricket in stadiums requires whole lot of preparation as well as money and time and be able to beat it out in the sun.

Also T20 does dilute the basic aspect of cricket, of bowler looking to get the batsman out, because in T20, the bowler isn't looking to do that at all.
A lot of bowlers are looking to do that. And a lot of teams acknowledge that as the best way of clamping down runs. Otherwise T20 teams would be full of medium pacers who bowl wicket to wicket.

Having said that a 'casual' fan is not going to get the difference those two things anyway.
You would be surprised at how knowledgeable "non-purists" can be. A few members of my family don't watch Test matches, and feed on T20 due to its convenient timing and length. But they could give anyone here a run for their money as far as the intricacies of cricket are concerned. They don't memorize stats, reports and news or wake up at 4 in the morning to watch India v Australia, but they are very aware of the mental aspects of the game itself.[DOUBLEPOST=1411049884][/DOUBLEPOST]

Very true. Atleast that is the case with Indian viewers. Great alternative to watching Aurnab Goswami screaming his lungs out :P (which is highly entertaining btw)

I think the primary target is still to restrict runs than to get wickets. If a wicket falls its a bonus. The game plan is how to restrict a player from scoring rather than getting his wicket. For the most part atleast.

They are not 'casual' viewers then. 'Casual' viewer implies someone who has only an on the surface knowledge of the game, and tunes in only to watch some sixes being hit.

The nation wants to know, how dare you? :D

At the TV end of things its more of being shown in the prime time of tv viewing instead of work hours that helps it.AS well as the short duration helps in maintaining the viewers hooked to see it complete.

The thing about tests is that even though people may not be watching it the full five days and all the sessions, its being followed through web,or mobile or in some form, the interest is always there and it really does matter, but it always comes to time constraints, i mean life is short and moves at a fast pace nowadays, its pretty hard to watch a test match completely.

If test can be packaged in a way that it can fit our lives, im sure the viewership will increase, Im actually eager to see if night tests can win some viewership back.

Night-Night test cricket. Start at 5 in the evening end at 12. Colored clothes, white ball. White clothes red ball if possible at night.

Fair enough. In that case, cricket is glad to have such viewers and T20 needs to be thanked for that

I remember a time when i used to be fan of this gornab until i realised that it was just another reality show. Really loved that episode with ydik popcorn episode.

I still watch his shows and like it. Unless its about something totally irrelevant, or something I don't care about. Its good to see some of the top politicians given a dressing down from time to time on national TV. The point about it being a reality show is very accurate.

Also, sometimes it does lead to an interesting debate. In between all the "Arnab let me speak ... let me speak ... no its not fair let me speak ... do not interrupt me ... you asked me a question now let me reply ... don't interrupt ... don't you want to hear the answer ... let me speak ..." bits, sometimes some sensible things are said. :D

ya sometimes its just worth it to watch him scream at some wanted politician the things we would have liked to ask even though there is going to be no proper answer.

Do you guys think Akshar Patel is good enough to do it beyond T20s? He has done a good job in T20s so far. Ganguly named him in his 30 probables for the WC. I am not sure he is ready for the next step yet. What do you think?

He looks good in ipl, pretty effective but not sure if we can CAP him into WC or even ODI's for that mater of now, best thing would be to put him in T20 squad and have him with the team,if he performs consistently for another season or two in FC as well as listA then we can blood him in.

Yeah I feel the India T20 squad for a year should be the best performers in the past IPL only. No point in seniors playing Int'l T20. Just pick the top IPL performers T20 and for the next one year any IT20 Int'l only those guys should play.
