3d models for TAOC

Question for LM:

What do you reckon to trying to get TAOC mentioned on the Radio 4 Test Match Special coverage? I could finish off my stadium and send them some nice renders to talk about? They do that sort of thing on there, like people send in cakes for them and stuff. Bit of extra hype can't do any harm. Let me know what you think.

Also, I noticed this morning that they have changed the pavillion to the Brian Lara Pavillion. Bit of texture modification required methinks!

Well, good idea! I was also thinking of doing something similar. I was thinking if I should send some screenshots to Cricketnext.com to show them that there is a game in progress. They usually advertise games and maybe they sponsor for the game too. It is Cricket India website, and cricket means everythign to us. I am pretty sure We Indians can do anything for Cricket.
Is it a good idea?
@ LM, if i have tour permission, should i send them e-mail with screenshots and ask if they want to sponsor it?

@ LC, I asked you about those stuff you wanted me to do for the preview but you still didn't reply to it, but its ok. I am posting pictures of those stuff that were hard to see in the previous preview. These is the close up picture of the asboards, stands, and other stuff. Hope this helps to see those things you couldn't see in the previous preview. If not then please tell me what you want to see close up and i'll take picture of that.

Clearly you are improving, which is great but am i the only one who thinks the stadium is caving in on itself?? The slope of the stands is bizarre - imagine if you were in the crowd, you would be leaning dramatically - in fact, you would slide into the centre lol. Just curious why you didn't make it level??

I am just as concerned about it as you are but that is how it is in real. I am not lying or anything because i have been at the stadium myself and thats what happens in real too. I was on this stand and kept on sliding but its not too much tilted so that people slide alot lol. I also have a reference picture you can look at it and see it yourself. One thing is that the real stand is not that much tilted as it is in the model but it will be fixed as i still have to adjust the size and i will stretch it horizontally which will bring it to the level as shown in the reference picture.

But if stretching horizontal doesn't help then I will do it manually. It will not take alot of time. Maybe just 1 or 2 minutes.

For once I agree with Saurav!!! The stand IRL does seem to slope like he has which is a bit odd but realistic.

Saurav if you just press 4 (Maya 8.5) and do a print-screen of the viewport in front, side and top view, it would be good.

I'm thinking of working on a stadium editor like Paul described. Would anyone be interested?

Pretty impressive stadium Saurav. Also your way of approaching other members has also improved.Glad you changed yourselves.Good luck.

Lol!!! Wow, ok, i stand corrected :) My apologies MS Dhoni, i take that back. You have indeed done a good job then - i wasn't aware of how it was in real life but after seeing that photo i can now see your stadium is pretty bang on. Well done. Still think the real life design is bizarre tho! Maybe a bit too postmodern? :p

i think then we should need different parts of public stand and different types of roofs...
didnt'we???

i can help Tom in your work but since i do not no the script editing in 3ds max so i could only help in 3d models....

and one question....whether this editor would be in game option or seperate...

if this would be in game, then TAOC will revolutionize the cricket gaming history....

once agaiin i could help in making 3d models and different types of textures,if Tom ould like me to take me in his team, then i would also be a part of this revolutionary software....

Paul,I will be needing some time for Dhaka Stadium, about 2-3 weeks more till my examinations are not finished, till then BYE for Stadiums, but yes i could help in the stadium Maker....

@Sourav-I have just two words to speak:JUST GREAT.......

The way I see it at the moment, it would simply be a way of picking and choosing from a selection of stands and allowing you to place them where you want. It would be nice to have some sort of way to get different textures on there, so maybe you could have the adboards localised, etc.

What would be good, I reckon, would be to have it so you could make any outstanding features of the ground in 3ds max (like the Lords Pavillion and media centre) and then use other generic stands to make the rest of the ground up. Now, either this would require some proprietary file format to say, "use these 3ds models and put it in these places", or I would have to find some way of compiling the various models into one mesh.

I don't know the SDK well enough at the moment to make certain predictions about what can be done, so I will have to speak to LM about this.

i think that we should first make common things of any stadium like public stand with different textures,it would be cool to have some sort of common things first and after that outstanding features....we could add different types of roofs above the public stand like johanesburg one or simply a roof like dhaka one...

i think that if we both dont know the SFX,then it is obvious that it will be done by Paul only as he is a great coder....

Lets make common things first...
1-Simple Public Stand
2-Different Types of roofs over public Stand

these two things are necessary for any stadium,i think....

in my opinion we should have just choosing feature, which stand you choose and rotate and move feature for moving or rotating the meshes....

Thanks man!

Also, i think it is a good idea to amke about 5 or 6 different types of stands, roofs, and more other stuff but we have to adjust the limit fro it. For example, lets say i want to replace a green stand with a red one, then i should just be able to go to the editor and then click on the stand i want and then click on the stand i want to replace and then i only get two options for it. Those are to rotate the stand and resize. It shouldn't let you move the stand because then it will get too confusing for other people and stands will be floating in the air if not placed correctly.

@Sourav-Suppose if you want green stand in place of red one,we can make different types of Textures and Paul Could add colouring window in Stadium Maker by which you can change the colour of your stadium....and also the Stand should move on X axis and not on Y axis, then the stand will not float in air...

Hi Guys,

Great to see the the stadium Maker is been made. It will be the one of the best features that a cricket game could have.
Sorry guys for not active in the forum my internet connection had some problem but now its working.
I have finished all the stands of johnersberg stadium only need to texture them and align them.
The work has been slowed down because my final semester project is going so i am bit busy with that but in free i managed to texture one stand have a look.

i have managed to unwarp the texture (which is one of biggest hurdle).
Here is the texture file

As you can see that most of the parts in them looks somewhat artificial(eg windows). i will try to make perfect texture once everything was finished.

Comments are welcomed.....

Firstly, may I say it looks awesome - you really do seem to know what you are doing!!

I have a couple of pointers regarding your texturing:
- the concrete texture I think should be scaled down. The 'grain' in the concrete won't really be visible at that resolution - it will be almost one flat colour. At least maybe you could turn the contrast down a little so the 'grain' isn't so obvious.
- I've not seen the real stand, but at a guess I would say your roof texture also needs scaling down. Maybe ;)
- To make the windows look nice and shiny, I have a workflow which involves creating a layer with a sky texture in. Then blend that in over the dark windows using "Overlay" or "Multiply" layer blending in Photoshop. Then delete the sky texture in a wobbly fashion to get the reflection being bent off the windows. Or just look for some photos of some reflecting glass on Google Images.
- The overall look is a little dark. That may be due to your lighting set up for your renders, though. Remember that cricket is a game played in the sun - so try and make your textures look sunny!!

Other than those very minor things, it looks very good indeed. Very tidily done. I can imagine that the triangle count is very low as it looks efficiently modelled.

First off all thanks for the comments mate,
I am not good at texturing mate but i will definitely improve.

The concrete texture : your are correct mate i have made it from a texture which is high resolution and i used it as it is. i will do it as you said mate.

I have also not seen the real stand mate and there is no perfect picture available for this stand so i took screenshots from EAsports and kept them as my reference picture.

Great idea for the windows mate i will try them.

As you said the poly count of this stand is 78 i think mate.

I was in hurry posting it didn't see the lighting mate will preview the next stand with proper lighting and all the suggestions you have made. Thanks for the support mate..
