5th Test: England vs Australia at the Brit Oval

Who is the next one coming for England ?? maybe Ian Botham :laugh

Mark Butcher needs to stfu. He's telling the selectors that we need to pick 2 spinners. :facepalm I don't care if the ball is going to be turning square come Day 5, we should not pick either Panesar or Gashid. Neither are good enough to be playing Test cricket, they've not got enough wickets, and Panesar even bowled awfully at Cardiff as well. I would hate to see us lining up with Panesar in our XI for this game. Our best chance is with our seamers. We've simply not got a good enough 2nd spinner.

No idea what this post is meant to be getting at.

If Australia drop Clark then they really do need shot in the first innings he did brilliantly. And I'm sure England would rather face Hauritz over Clark any day.

I saw a piece on SSN, asking two former SURREY players about Ramprakash. WTF is the point in that?!?!? Might as well asked his mum and dad if they thought their little boy should be picked!

Are we SOOooooooooo desperate we want to pick a never was Test cricketer in his latter years on the basis of a county average which was always massively more impressive than his Test performances ever were and hope he succeeds in a one-off with little long-term prospect and the critics waiting with knives in hand ready to stick them in?

At least the excuse back in the 90s was there weren't that many obvious choices or better choices and two slots were almost permanently rotated, now we have a few we're not even willing to give a chance. How's he going to feel if he bags a pair and gifts the series to the aussies? If he does fail we'll all be debating "what if" we'd gone with someone else, a.n.other, a.better-batter etc

Was he even on the cards until the Pommy commentators started bringing him up and talking about him and Trescothick too in the comm box?

Whats with the hate? Age shouldnt be a factor when you are talking about the last match of the ASHES, the decider, when your middle order went for 16 runs off 17 overs in the last match. You pick your best players, fair and simple.

Ramps is one of them.

Not to mention the failure that is Ramps averages over 40 against better Australian sides than this.

England's new spin sensation?

Fly him back over to England.

Doesn't look like Ravi's going to get much of a chance to make runs for Essex. They've just started their 2nd innings, it's 3pm on the 4th day, so even if Essex lose a wicket quickly he's not going to have a chance to make a hundred. Looks like it'll be Trott and Bell lining up for this game.

Shah failed as well btw.

Fixed.

:D

There are still 5 more days to go for the last test match, really cant wait for it...This Ashes was comparatively more balanced than the previous Ashes 07,but certainly 2005 Ashes was really a cracker...

Just checked the Northants score to see how MSP was getting on against Kent. Turns out badly. His figures from the 2 innings read:

22 overs, 6 maidens, 2/56
21.4 overs, 1 maiden, 0/71

This is in comparison with James Tredwell, who in the same game has these figures:

24.4 overs, 3 maidens, 5/68
19 overs, 9 maidens, 5/32

Get Tredwell in the England side as a 2nd spinner, if we honestly feel the need to go in with 2 spinners. He's bowling bloody well, and he can bat. He should have played in the Caribbean over the winter, but was stupidly put below Batty in the pecking order. He obviously won't be picked, the selectors bum Panesar, and I imagine Rashid'll be next in line after him, especially given David Lloyd's laughable 'ger 'a leg spinner in your team' theory. Tredwell should really be next in line tbh.

What an unbelievably stupid thing to say. Ramprakash and Trescothick are still playing professional cricket, whereas Beefy retired years and years ago. :sarcasm

Either way, Ramps cannot possibly do worse than Bell/Bopara.

I wouldn't pick either Panesar or Rashid at the moment. They both aren't taking any wickets for their counties this season. I would keep the same bowling attack and hope they bowl better than they did at Leeds.

I agree - the bowlers had one bad game, that's all.

Trott surely has to come in, that man is in form. Bopara would be the one to make way, the English selectors hold Collingwood in high regard and Cook won't be dropped.

Agreed - it's time to get some new blood in the batting!

Please could you drop Hilfenhaus too and play Brett Lee? :p

Great idea!!

Anyone wanna chip in to hire some hitmen for the selectors?

We'll probably counter it by chipping in for some bodyguards... :laugh
