Story A Journey Down Under - First Innings Posted

damn i hope you improve i didn't know you were'nt pro at this game. :(

anyways got pretty close towards the end maybe you should've set the batsmen at full agressiveness, in the last 3-4 overs. :D

He probably did, but as they were all bowlers they struggle to score very fast.

Yea that's exactly what happened which is quite annoying.

@ Riz, I'm not bad at the game, just I'm not the greatest either.

Ponting and Bailey are just not on fire, Tasmania need more from them.
Bowlers are doing their part I think but batsmen need to stand up.

Also good writing there, pictures are fitting in.:clap

It was some of my pictures from the previous pages that had gone down, and the Cricinfo footer. I just made a new footer and uploaded it, but the pictures seem to be back now.

South Australia won a nail-biting match over Tasmania thanks to some impressive bowling from Jake Haberfield and Shaun Tait. After scoring 260/9 in the first innings, Tasmania appeared to be cruising along to a comfortable win, with Tim Paine scoring 79. However 4 wickets to Tait put a emergency brake on the ride, with 6 runs eventually required from the last over. Tait held his nerve, allowing only 3 runs for South Australia to win by 2 runs.

In a rather one-sided affair, Victoria crushed South Australia in the Sheffield Shield by 9 wickets. Batting first, Victoria made it to 413 thanks to a century from David Hussey. In reply, South Australia folded for 143, with Clint McKay taking 3 wickets, before Cameron White dismissed the tail to finish with figures of 5 runs for 3 wickets from only one and a half overs. Following on, South Australia managed to make their way to 307, but the target was never going to be high enough.

Queensland played Western Australia in a Ford Ranger Cup match that resulted in WA winning by 5 wickets. A total of 215 was never going to be much to defend thanks to some accurate bowling from Mitchell Johnson who gave away figures of 3-26 from his 10 overs. Western Australia reached the total with 7 overs to spare, despite a man-of-the-match performance from Ben Cutting who took 4-50.

Queensland then went on to play South Australia in a one-day match that went down to the wire. Scoring the inadequate total of 165, Queensland looked on the back-foot thanks to a team effort with the ball. They never gave up hope however, and thanks to Harris who took 4-49 from his ten overs, and Chris Swan who took 3-12 from 8, Queensland snuck a 3 run victory.

Here is the Tasmania MVP table, updated after their last match against South Australia. As before, Geeves is top and Bailey second, leading the rest of the players by a sizeable margin. Paine and Hilfenhaus have been the biggest movers up the table, with Ricky Ponting still labouring at the bottom of the table.

Due to university restarting I won't have much time for updates. I'm taking an extra paper this semester as well which will even further cut down my time. I should be able to get at least one update a week done though. Here's a small one for the moment.

In real cricket too Ponting is not in really good form and in this story too he is finding it hard to make runs. So, for me it makes this story realistic a bit. It could be just me though.

Last few updates have been really good Chewie and yes congrats for winning SOTM. :)

Queensland v Tasmania, Ford Ranger Cup, The Gabba

Cutting and Swan Contain Tasmanian Lineup

Tasmania 177/9 (Geeves 49, Cutting 3-29)

The going doesn?t seem to be getting any better for new Tasmanian coach Jono Choie as his team slumped to 177/9 from their allotted 50 overs. Ryan Harris made the early strikes before Ben Cutting returned to take 3 wickets in the first over of his second spell. A late recovery from Brett Geeves and Ben Hilfenhaus inspired some confidence but the extremely disappointing total will not look very intimidating for the Queensland batsmen.

After winning the toss, Queensland decided to bowl first on an overcast morning. 3 players were making their OD debuts in this game, Andy Popplewell from Queensland, and Steven Cazzulino and Jonathan Wells from Tasmania, and would have been looking to make a statement to the coaches. Cazzulino and Wells come in for Cosgrove and Ponting respectively who have both been called up for international duty.

Cazzulino was out third ball however, LBW to Ryan Harris; a dismissal he will be very unhappy about. This early wicket led the batsmen to make a slow start as they tried to recover from the loss. The bowlers induced numerous plays and misses but nothing caught the edge. After three overs Harris had the remarkable OD figures of 3-3-0-1, as the ball was played defensively for the most part. After the keeper let 4 byes past, Tim Paine began to hit more aggressively, and was looking comfortable, while Wells had some close calls from the other end. Paine was out LBW to Harris however, with Tasmania sitting on 59/2 after 16 overs. Harris bowled his 10 overs consecutively and looked extremely threatening until his last over when he coughed up 13 runs. Despite Harris departing the bowling crease, the danger was not over, with Wells given out LBW to a ball that must surely have been hitting outside the line. If the UDRS review system had been in place for these matches, it would definitely have been ruled not out, but because it wasn?t present, Wells had to walk back to the pavilion.

When Travis Birt set out on a suicidal run, Tasmania were definitely in trouble. This was compounded by Rhett Lockyear being bowled by Feldman in the next over with the score at 89/5. Butterworth and Bailey were required to settle the ship with both playing defensively to conserve their wickets. When Lee Carseldine came on to bowl his part time medium pacers, Bailey decided to attack his bowling. This move caused his downfall however as he was caught behind to leave the score at 105/6 after 29 overs. Despite calls from the dressing room to play defensively, Geeves hit his first ball for six, and followed that with a four a few balls later. The decision to bring back Cutting into the attack worked wonders for Queensland nabbing the wickets of Luke Butterworth, Xavier Doherty and Gerard Denton in quick succession. 3 wickets had fallen in the space of 5 balls and Tasmania was struggling at 120/9. Geeves played a number of nice strokes, with Hilfenhaus trying to give as much as of the strike to him as possible. This pair managed to make it to the 45th over whereupon they took the batting powerplay with the score at 146/9. In what may be the weirdest ever batting powerplay, the second over was hit for 13, before two maidens were bowled, and the last over hit for 14. In total it had generated 31 runs, and boosted the Tasmania score to 177/9. Geeves was left stranded one short of his debut OD half century, with 46 of his runs having come in boundaries. This last wicket partnership of 57 had no doubt saved some face for the Tasmanians but it is still well short of a decent total on this wicket, and the Tasmania bowlers will have to bowl out of their skins if they want to win this match.

Hmm. Have a feeling you may have been done over there. Credit where credit's due, though, good bowling by Cutting and good resistance from Geeves.

I'm not going to say anything, except that this is the third good match in a row :)
