A Leftie's draft

Far out, completely forgot to make my pick, its been that long! Sorry guys, I'll do it in five minutes.

Simon Katich

Another player who was very unlucky to be born in the Hayden/Langer era. Having now been given the opportunity to shine he's doing it incredibly well. Katich was originally a middle order batsman, so that's where he'll bat in my side. Averages a very respectable 47 in tests and his first class record is mammoth. 222 games for 18,000 runs, an average of 54 with 50 100's and 97 50's. Katich has always also been a very able spin bowler, with 95 first class wickets at 36 and a SR of 60.

Bill Voce

They say that Voce was in one of the greatest fast bowling partnerships with Harold Larwood. A very quick and accurate bowler with a beautiful action he provided the Australian batsmen with no relief during the infamous bodyline series.

Man Im glad I stayed out of this draft, I have not heard of half the players :laugh

Good learning experience though, there must really be a shortage of Lefties, still a few surprising picks not taken.

There is deffo a much better Left batsman than Katich still unpicked

Nice picking of Bill Voce. That was my next bowler of choice. Even had a little writeup written :( Oh well, I'll keep stocking my middle order:

Graham Thorpe

England's rock in the middle during the last 90s and early 00s. Very good allround player who could handle pace and spin and was good at home and good away too. And he was always a thorn in the side of Australia, the leading bowling attack of the era. Pretty good slip fielder too and joined the 100 catches club just before his career ended. Ended up with 6744 runs with a 44.66 average. I've found plenty of decent left handed openers I want, but not so many middle order players so I've stocked up. Toss up between he and Flower for #6, I'll go with Thorpe.

Same here, I probably would've gone for Tim McIntosh by now :laugh

I'd rep reply, but you're the last person I repped.

I though Katich just pipped him statistically. Plus I needed a middle order batsman.

Going my 3rd Aussie:

Mark Taylor

Taylor is quite the icon of Australian cricket. He was a fantastic top order batsmen scoring over 7000 runs and making 19 centuries. He also has the what was then equal highest score for an Australian test batsmen with 334* - equalling Don Bradmans record. Taylor suffered some poor form towards the back half of his career which led to his average dropping significantly. But maintaining an average of over 40 over 104 test matches is a very good effort.

Taylor was also a great slips fielder. One of the best Australia has ever seen. He took 157 catches for Australia - averaging 1 1/2 a match.

Tim McIntosh! Of course! I hope no one picks him... :p

I had Katich penciled for one of my openers but I forgot that he isn't an opener by trade and that he bats 3 or 4 for NSW.

Heck, we've really just rollicked along. My turn already.

Andrew Strauss

His debut at Lord's against New Zealand in 2004 signaled to a bright future for Strauss. Scores of 112 and 83 almost made him the first Englishman to score twin centuries on debut. After 30 Tests, he had racked up 10 Test centuries. His form did wane however, but came back strong when recalled for the tour to New Zealand where he scored 177 at Napier and continued this form into India where he scored centuries in both innings of a Test at Chennai.

Handed the captaincy after KP's resignation, he led England to the West Indies where in his first match in charge, England were shot out for 51. However he led from the front when regaining the Ashes 2-1 over Australia, with a series tally of 474 runs @ 52.66.

Wow and he still goes unpicked.

I wonder if anyone will even take him!

Some very good picks going around. I'd have picked Strauss/Taylor but I already had two openers. Starting to wish I'd picked Tubby though, he could have slotted in at 4.

I was tempted to go Strauss tbh. Expected him to go this round/next. But Tubby got one over him for me. The only thing I was worried about was Tubbys terrible run of form but he's still class.
