TT Lions Classics
Part 4

TT Lions vs. 28 de Perimetro
Played at The Lion Stands
22/01/2006

28 de Perimetro: 227/9, 50 overs [Kelly 76, Haynes 51, Atheron-ham 5/44, Leonard 3/50]
TT Lions: 228/8, 41.4 overs [Dennis 65*, Lonergan 57, Beckford 3/58, Corry 2/27]

Before the Lions could promote, they had to play a Play-off match. However, 28 de Perimetro were a rather poor side, and Cox, Delop and Crouch amongst other players were rested. However, they were still going hard and looking for the win, as were de Perimetro.
The pitch was an uncharateristic one, with pace and bounce, but very little movement or spin for the slower bowlers. After winning the toss, Arthur Dennis decided that he would like to field. What seemed at the time a poor decision turned out to be a rather shrewd one, as young Aussie Leon Atheron-ham steamed in and hit the deck hard, picking up two wickets in his very first over! Broad recieved a jaffa, which swung in before nipping away and finding the edge, and Peter had to fend off a vicious bouncer first up, straight to T?oeu at gully. Kelly and Hassel put up a good partnership, before Hassel missed a straight ball to end an agonizing 77 ball 27. But Kelly was still blazing away, and with Haynes put up a threating 48 run partnership, before legspinner Nguyen-lee struck with one that bounced more than expected and grazed the glove. Whittaker (47*) and Haynes then put up another fine partnership and looked unstoppable, before Leon Atheron-ham returned for his second spell. From 198/4, they collapsed to 227/9, with Atheron-ham running through with a good mix of pace, swing, slower balls and the occasional bouncer. Leonard kept a good like and added 2 more to his tally. A score of 227 was set - chasable, but it was going to be tricky.
In reply, Mpumelele was out bowled eary, spinner Thackery opening the bowling and striking gold immediately. However, Lonergan and T?oeu battled on, but scored slowly. Both fell in quic succession, and the Lions were in a spot of bother. Nguyen-lee and Greenwood tumbled cheaply, and it looked like 28 de Perimetro might be able to pull off a shock win. But Dennis didn't give up, and put on 40 crucial and quick runs with Atheron-ham. But the young Aussie fell quickly, and so did Karl Dean, and at 183/7 the pressure was back on. Dennis kept fighting though, and brought up a fantastic fifty. And in Leonard, he found a fine companion, as they inched closer and closer to victory. Leonard fell with victory in sight, but Pat Cash kept his cool to help see the Lions home in a 2 wicket victory.
Atheron-ham was awarded MOTM, and is 5/44 remains his best bowling figures to date.

Not looking too good. I will most probably end up in the red by a quite a bit before my next home game. Still, shouldn't be so bad that I will lose my team...

Will Zorax loses management of the Lions? Find out in next week's

A terrific bowling performance all-round saw the Lions cruise to an almost effortless win. Chasing a extremely low target, Gidding made short work of it to hand the Lions there 6th consecutive League match win and their 11th win of the season from 12 games!
After winning the toss, Mac Kopano decided to have a bat first on what seemed like a tricky pitch. But it was a decision that went terribly wrong. Folkes struck in his first over, finding the edge to set them back at 5/1. After a slight recovery, Rudi struck twice in the over, including the wicket of star batsman Liam Christie for a duck, leaving ketchy shuby staggering at 18/3. Folkes struck the second ball of the next over making it 18/4, and they never recovered from that. But after fighting it out to prop the score to 41/5, Eli joined the party and took 4 in the space of two overs to wrap up the innings at a paltry 43 all out.
In reply, Giddings and Cutler made short work of the target, Giddings easing away four boundaries and Cutler one as the target was knocked over in just 8.1 overs, with the entire match lasting only 28.3 overs.

Good ratings on TIE. It was hard to pick who bowled the best, so Giddings getting MOTM seems fair enough.

Attendance:

A fair amount of cash for them, should serve them well.

For the victories u get, definitely you will recover from current financial situation. And thats one of the magical performance in bowling in yesterday's match. :)
