C&G Trophy 1st Round
Yorkshire vs Sussex

The C&G Trophy kicked off today for Yorkshire, with the visit of Sussex in the first round. Earlier in the season Yorkshire beat Sussex comfortably in the Totesport League, but with this being a knockout competition, one mistake from either side could see their opponents going through. Conditions were checked before the game.

Difficult looking conditions for batting with overcast conditions, but a green pitch meant that the ball could do anything, so a tough decision for whoever won the toss, which was taken shortly after.

So, Chris Adams won the toss and decided to have a bat first, stating that he wanted his team to set a score on this pitch and look to defend as that is what they have done best this season. The teams were soon announced and play would begin shortly after.

Shaun Briggs Signs Up With Slazenger

Shaun Briggs today penned a deal with bat makers Slazenger who have signed up for youngster on a 4 year contract. The deal means Briggs will now be using Slazenger bats for the next four years, which came at the great delight of Slazenger Chief Executive Langerrox.

Shaun Briggs was said to be very pleased with the deal and will use his first Slazenger bat in the upcoming C&G game.

haha classic:) thanks man

Sussex Restricted As Yorkshire Gain Advantage
From Headingly

Yorkshire are on top in this C&G 1st round game as they restricted Sussex to only 204 for 6 after their 50 overs. From what has been seen so far, it looks to be a bowler friendly pitch as Sussex struggled to really take the game by the scruff of the neck after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Richard Montgomerie was the pick of the Sussex batsmen scoring a slowly paced 62, while Matthew Hoggard picked up 2 wickets for Yorkshire.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs bowled a very tight spell of bowling today which helped restrict the Sussex batters. His 10 overs went for only 35 runs and he troubled the batsmen throughout. Only 4 boundaries came from his 10 overs, one a huge six from Montgomerie, but still Briggs kept it tight and will be looking to get a good score with the bat.

Shaun Briggs 10-3-35-0
1st Over: Maiden over to start up with for Briggs
2nd Over: Ian Ward picks up two 4's from the over, much to the annoyance of Briggs
3rd Over: Maiden over
4th Over: Another maiden from Briggs in which Ward edges just short of slip
5th Over: Chris Adams picks up a 4
6th Over: 4 singles picked up from the over
7th Over: 3 singles from the over
8th Over: Montgomerie is dropped going for a pull shot and punishes Briggs the next ball by hitting him for a huge six
9th Over: 2 singles from the over
10th Over: 7 runs picked up from Briggs final over as Sussex step up a gear

Briggs into the attack in the 11th Over

Hey I have been reading this thread and I can describe this as simply "Excellent"

Hehe thanks mate, hopefully Briggs can be a big hit for the ROckeRS as well!!

Cant continue the story though until i get the bat problem sorted as the Slazenger bat wont appear in the game as of yet so just waiting on that at the moment!

come on brigzzy:) have a bat! (after a few improvements)
langerrox the ceo of slazenger has given briggzy a new bat:D

Sussex Through As Yorkshire Collapse!
From Headingly

Sussex pulled off an amazing victory at Headingly today as they beat Yorkshire by 16 runs to progress through to the 2nd round. Yorkshire never really got going with the bat and it was a poor show from all of them as hardly any of the batsmen got a decent score. The spinners did the job for Sussex as Mushtaq Ahmed and Murray Goodwin both took 2 wickets each, while Matthew Wood top scored for Yorkshire with 40.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs misery with the bat in one day cricket continued as he failed to make a score again. At one stage it looked like he was going well putting on a partnership with Vaughan of 27 before a silly run out cost Briggs his wicket on 11. At the moment Briggs place in the one day team is at risk and should his bowling form drop in that form, he may find himself making way for Michael Lumb.
