Briggs And Harvey Steady The Ship
At Headingly
Despite loosing early wickets, Yorkshire managed to post a half decent score as they were bowled out on the opening day for 272. At one stage, 200 looked out of reach, but knocks from Briggs (79) and Harvey (71) ensured that Yorkshire were able to post something competitive in their first innings. Lancashire made the most of winning the toss and Mark Chilton will be happy his bowlers hit the right marks, with Cork, Anderson, Flintoff and Hogg picking up 2 wickets between them.
From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs showed his potential yet again with the bat as he scored a very patient 79. Wickets fell around him, which seems to be quiet a habbit now whenever Briggs is at the crease, but he was un-nerved and together with several different partners he was able to build the Yorkshire score. Some nice cover drives gave Briggs some nice boundaries but he was eventually out playing at a wide one from Anderson which went straight to Mal Loye at second slip.
Briggs came in a little earlier than he would have expected
Even some pad problems did not stop Briggs from progressing the score
A patient 50 from Briggs, set the scene for him to play some shots
And that he did, hitting boundaries from Murali (left) and Flintoff (right)
But the innings came to an end and the Lancashire players were clearly delighted to see the back of Briggs
