Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Seven

A brilliant game for Briggs then as he is awarded the man of the match award. His stats have improved greatly after this game, and currently only one man has more centuries than Briggs this season, that being Andy Flower, which shows how well Briggs has done so early in his career.

Leicestershire vs Yorkshire
Grace Road

Yorkshire make their second trip of the season to Grace Road as they take on Leicestershire in the Totesport League. On the back of a brilliant morale boosting victory over Lancashire, Yorkshire will be going into this game on a high and looking for a victory to boost their promotion hopes. Conditions were checked before the match by both captains.

conditions0by.jpg

So a green pitch and overcast conditions, probably suit the team who field first, but as we have seen so many times before this season, that is not always the case. The coin toss was taken soon after.

Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bowl first

So, Ackerman won the toss and has decided to bowl first in hope of getting Yorkshire out for a low total. The teams were announced soon after and play was ready to get under way.

Sorry there is no screenshot of the coin toss, i didnt have fraps open!

Briggs is in due for a good score in the limited overs game, otherwise he would be labelled a test player.

Test player it is then! (you'll see why shortly!)

Yorkshire Humbled As Leicestershire Look Set For Victory
At Grace Road

Yorkshire were bowled out for 139 in what was a dismal show with the bat from all concerned in the Yorkshire camp. Leicestershire bowled brilliantly on a green pitch and fully justified their captains choice to bowl first on this pitch. The slower bowlers were most effective with Mongia and Maddy both picking up 3 wickets as pace off the ball really made things difficult for the Yorkshire batsmen.

From Briggs View
Another poor show with the bat from Briggs saw him score a lowly 19 from 44 deliveries. Briggs was not helped by the fact that wickets regularly fell around him which in turn put more pressure on him, and in the end he was out sweeping as the ball took the edge and went straight into the keepers gloves. There was some positive batting from Briggs however as he did hit a huge six off Darren Maddy.

Much better being a test player than an ODI specialist...maybe you could be a bowling allrounder?

Cricinfo updated their current player stats, and included Shaun Briggs in their stats. See his page below

Leicestershire Sneak Home In Thrilling Game
At Grace Road

In what turned out to be an amazing game, Leicestershire finished victors by the small margin of 2 wickets. The game should have been a lot easier for the home side, but they made it harder for themselves with a string of rash shots early on, but take nothing away from the Yorkshire bowlers, who did bowl very well in the middle section of the game. The game was won with a first ball six from Phil DeFraitas who smashed the ball straight back past Richard Dawson to seal victory for Leicestershire, who at one stage looked like loosing the game.

From Briggs View
Briggs is undoubtebly in the best bowling form of his life, picking up 4 for 39 in this game and nearly winning it for Yorkshire. He dismissed the top 3 batsmen with some very good bowling and it was only his final over which went for 10 which really put a bad mark on his bowling figures. He picked up his wickets in two's which put more pressure on Leicestershire, but in the end Briggs effort was not enough to save Yorkshire from defeat.

Shaun Briggs 9-1-39-4

1st Over: 2 taken from Briggs' opening over
2nd Over: WICKETS! Briggs makes the vital breakthroughs, dismissing both openers, who got out in identical fashion, both going for hook shots which went straight in the air and landed in the fielders hands.
3rd Over: Briggs bowls his first no ball
4th Over: Aftab Habib smashes a 4 to the boundary
5th Over: Maiden over from Briggs
6th Over: 2 taken from the over
7th Over: Ackerman hooks for 4
8th Over: WICKETS! Briggs takes 2 wickets in the over, first he bowls a full toss at Maunders which he completely misses and strikes him dead infront. The second, a brilliant delivery to bowl Dinesh Mongia who looked like he was steering Leicestershire to victory
9th Over: Nixon smashes a 4 to the boundary and then see's Briggs out of the attack by hooking a huge 6 from his final delivery

And he does just that, getting rid of Maddy in his 2nd over, much to his team mates delight (Above/Below)

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Seven

The ever improving bowling of Briggs is a big boost for Yorkshire as he continues to get wickets in both forms of the game. His batting in one day cricket is showing improvement but he is yet to hit it big like he has done in the longer version of the game.

Worcestershire vs Yorkshire
New Road

An exciting game in prospect here as Yorkshire make the journey to New Road to take on Worcestershire in Division Two. Both teams are looking for promotion and with both line ups looking to be quite strong, this game should hopefully go the distance. Solanki and White checked the conditions of the pitch before the game got underway.

conditions8jr.jpg

So a dusty pitch should provide plenty of help for the spinners, but with no cloud cover, the faster bowlers could struggle to generate swing on this pitch. The toss would be an interesting one, especially for the winning captain.

toss7fc.jpg

So Craig White won the toss and has chosen to bat first on this pitch, which is an interesting decision. If it doesnt pay off, White may rule this decision in a couple of days time. The teams were announced soon after, and play was ready to get under way.

All To Play For After Yorkshire First Innings
At New Road

Yorkshire were bowled out for 305 in their first innings at New Road on what looks to be quite a good batting strip. Yorkshire batted well on a pitch that is offering a lot for the spinners as both openers scored 43 before falling one after the other, but it was left to Shaun Briggs again to steady the Yorkshire innings after the youngster top scored with 85 and was the 9th wicket to fall. All rounder Zander de Bruyn took 4 wickets for Worcestershire, while England spinner Gareth Batty chipped in with 3 to help restrict Yorkshire's score.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs was once again the main stay in the Yorkshire innings, something he has probably gotten used to now. Without Briggs contribution in this innings, Yorkshire may very well have been in trouble as many of their other batters struggled with the spin, but Briggs played it very well and hit some very nice boundaries in his 85. He was eventually out hitting one straight in the air off the bowling of de Bruyn as he looked to pick up some runs with wickets left low.
