A T20 draft...cricket_icon & swacker's picks

I'm picking Kevon Cooper, write-up later along with James Taylor's write-up.

^OK, looking forward to it. Cooper's another guy I'm only vaguely familiar with.

I'm going to start the Kiwi round right now, that way Andrin can make a double pick when he comes on next and keep the NZ round moving (and after cricket icon picks of course).

Daniel Vettori

or-this.jpg

Format | Matches | Wickets | Average | Economy | Strikerate | BB T20I | 28 | 35 | 16.57 | 5.36 | 18.5 | 4/20 T20 | 95 | 100 | 22.46 | 6.30 | 21.3 | 4/20

Vettori is very accurate, and is one of the best in the game at varying his pace and flight. Those skills make up for his lack of spin, particularly in limited overs cricket. Although as any spinner will tell you, the ball only needs to turn half a bat width...

Didn't really have a great IPL 2012, and hasn't played a T20I for 2 years, but it's pretty obvious that Vettori has at very least BEEN an excellent T20 bowler, even if his current level of play isn't as sharp. His overall T20 record is impressive and we know from his excellent ODI career that he is a quality player, so don't allow the naysayers and those calling for his retirement to bias your judgement.

Stats tell us that Vettori has the best economy rate in T20Is - only 5.36 RPO (of guys with at least 10 wkts). It's not just his overall economy rate either, it's the fact that he's CONSISTENLY economical. In only 6 of his 28 T20Is has he gone for more than 24 runs and only 3 times over 30 runs - pretty remarkable. Incidently, the only other man from the main 8 countries to have a economy rate under 6 in T20Is is my other spinner, Ajantha Mendis. So I'll have a stifling spin combination to go with my 150+ strike rating opening batsmen, all trying to win the battle of the run rates.

Vettori can bat as well. Hasn't made a massive impact thus far with bat in the T20 format, but I saw the other day that the average for a #7 in T20Is is 16.36, meaning that Vettori's batting averages of 13.35 in T20Is and 18.43 in all T20s puts him right where your typical #7 batsman needs to be.

At this stage he's my captain as well. 13 wins in T20Is as captain is the 5th most of any captain thus far. His W/L ratio in charge of NZ is quite respectable too (13Ws vs 13Ls). Compare Dhoni for instance: 14Ws and 15Ls for India, or Afridi: 8Ws and 11Ls for Pakistan, both leading stronger teams than Vettori has been given.

Ravi Rampaul

Ravindranath Rampaul (born October 15, 1984 in Preysal, Trinidad and Tobago) is a West Indian cricketer. He is the first quick bowler of Indian descent to represent West Indies at international level,[1] playing Tests, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. Capable of decent pace and accuracy from a simple, smooth bowling action, Rampaul has been identified, along with Jerome Taylor, as a potential leader of the West Indies bowling attack in the years to come.

Write something what you think about the player and reason(s) behind picking him up. Please don't copy from wikipedia and cricinfo, buddy.

Adrin, you need to double pick, buddy. Go ahead and pick a kiwi player.

Andrin, you jumped the gun a bit mate. I'm still selecting my Windies player and you're after me.

My Pick: Darren Sammy

Stats
Batting: Matches 29, Runs 184, Average 10.82, SR 112.88, HS 30

Bowling: Matches 29, Wickets 31, Average 17.48, SR 16.1, Econ 6.47, 4w 1, 5w 1

This was a tough, tough pick. I was extremely close to picking either Darren Bravo or Rampaul (lucky you Andrin) but I'm hoping for a favourable pick in the NZ round to counteract my lack of batsman. Anyway, the main reason I picked Sammy was because t20 is fast becoming an allrounders game. Sammy is the type of player who can get 10-20 runs in the lower order and pick up a couple essential wickets in each game. With the current make up of my team (specialists only) I needed a little variety and a back up bowler who can bat, Sammy was just the right man.

DevendraBishoo

Format | Matches | Wickets | Average | Economy | Strikerate | BB T20I | 4 | 6 | 16.33 | 6.25 | 15.6 | 4/17 T20 | 22 | 35 | 14.62 | 6.34 | 13.8 | 4/17

Known for his attacking bowling, this leg spinner from Guyana made quite a stir with instant success in domestic cricket. Drafted into the national one day side in a world cup match against England, Bishoo responded to the faith put in him by the selectors picking up 3/34 in his 10 overs. Pleased by his performance, the wise men of WICB decided to throw him in the team for the other two formats as continued to make an impact. He debuted against Pakistan in one off T20I played at St Lucia bagging 4/17 at a miserly economy rate of 4.25 as his team mates struggling to keep the things tight on the other end. His spell proved to be the difference in the end with the Calypsos clinching the match by 7 runs. Despite good show, he is a bit overshadowed by the rise of fellow spinner Sunil Narine. Bishoo is, without a doubt, one of the few very exciting talents in world cricket and one would hope to see more of him as he continues to vanquish the rival batsmen for Guyana and West Indies A.

I liked his bowling style and his economic rate is just below 7 ;) which is a best eco.rate in T20s

Shll i pick a kiwi player ??

James Taylor

This guy's got some serious consistency. His averages in all the three formats indicate this. He has the potential to become a great player for England, and his potential was seen years before he made his test debut just recently. He won numerous awards in 2009, and this brought him to the spotlight.

His strike rate is something to maybe worry about, but hopefully my new targets could solve that problem.:D

Another interesting aspect about this guy is that he is the captain of England Lions, so his leadership qualities could be used for my team.
