A T20 draft...cricket_icon & swacker's picks

Alright, I'm going to do the writeup later as well.

Dimitri Mascarenhas

Dimitri Mascarenhas took the first ever hat-trick in T20 cricket (first recorded one). Going for under 7 runs an over in a format which is considered as bowler's graveyard and maintaining it for over a 100 matches is an incredible achievement. He can provide some lower order hitting and is a very useful fielder. He is also one of the bowlers to have taken 5 wickets in a T20 match twice. He has the best SR (16.5) in T20 cricket for bowlers who have played more than 100 matches. And, has the second best avg. (19.13) for the bowlers who have played more than 100 matches behind that of Shahid Afridi (18.51).

Mat: 106
Inns: 86
NO: 23
Runs: 1237 @ 19.63
HS: 57*
SR: 128.18
50s: 3

Inns: 102
Wkts: 127 @ 19.13
Eco: 6.93
BB: 5/14
4w: 1, 5w: 2

There were so many tempting options but, I'm going for Dimitri Mascarenhas. Has an ER of just 7.01 in over 100 T20 matches. Incredible! Plus, he can bat too and give it a whack!

So far I've,

David Warner
Andrew Symonds
Azhar Mahmood
Dimitri Mascarenhas

Batting order can't really be decided as of yet. Warner opens though. :p

----------

SBH can start the WI round..

Format | Matches | Innings | Runs | Highest Score | Average | Strikerate | 50s/100s T20I | 10 | 8 | 127 | 32 | 21.16 | 127.00 | 0/0 T20 | 78 | 72 | 1833 | 117 | 27.35| 146.28 | 11/1

If you thought that Matthew James Prior is just a test specialist and can't hit the ball, think again. Yes, he has been in and out of the England final XI in the game's shortest format but if you look at his overall T20 stats, the South African born keeper has much to show. The Cheese has been quite a prolific run scorer in the 78 matches he has played amassing 1833 runs hitting 11 half centuries and once reaching the 3 figure mark. His strike rate of 146.28 and an average of 27.35 is more than enough to reflect how good and consistent hitter Matt is and thus just not all. His glove work is widely known. He has 49 dismissals to his name behind the stumps with 43 catches and 6 stumpings; 3 of them in international matches.

Davies goes unpicked, nice.:D

But his average is horrible when compared to others.

^Phil Mustard is another English keeper who's got a pretty good record too.

stuart broad, god I hate him. I can't stress how much this annoys me.

Bwahahah :lol It's a good pick, but I'm exactly like you...Broad was my 2nd preference after Trescothick, and I was PRAYING no one took Trescothick cause I didn't want Broad in my team - he's the one guy I was willing to skip just on principle :D

And like I did for the Pakistan round, I'll share the names of a few English gentlemen whom I came across in my searching:

3 guys who have played for England (some more than others):

*Luke Wright: Hasn't been overly successful for England, but he's shown enough talent for Sussex to keep getting him back in the national team (and contracts from T20 leagues around the world). Averages 26 with a strike rate of almost 148 over his 125 T20s thus far. Useful bowler for a breakthrough, but a bit expensive generally.

*Darren Maddy: former opening batman and part-time medium pacer. Maddy played for England in the 2007 World T20, and did pretty well, but was ultimately a casualty of England's failed campaign as they looked for someone younger. Has piled up T20 runs (and wickets) for Leicestershire in particular.

*Alex Hales: tall, young, up and coming opening batsman. You might have seen his 99 vs West Indies a couple of months ago in a T20I.

And 2 guys who've never worn the England colours:

GrahamNapier4.jpg

*Nayan Doshi: son of Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi but played most of his career in England - mainly for Surrey. Left arm spinner who took 53 wickets for Surrey in T20, at only 14.66 (7.00 RPO).

*Graham Napier: bowling all-rounder for Essex. In T20 has only passed 50 once with bat, but what an innings it was! He hit 16 6s in 152* (58) vs Sussex, the 2nd highest T20 score in history. He's more reliable with ball though, with over 100 T20 wickets.

Thanks for taking over for me Stinky. Luke Wright was someone I had in mind, but I've got nothing against Broady, just didn't expect him to still be left, so good choice.

I was liteally very confused about whether I should pick Wright or Dimi. But, given I had already picked Symonds and Mahmood, I went for more of a bowling AR in Dimi.

hey sedition, if you want to take back over that's ok, if not cool too.

I would suggest Kieron Pollard, seeing as you were looking at luke wright and kieron pollard is just like luke wright except better in every possible way. yep, he's a bit of a hit or miss player, but I think you can afford someone like that in your team at twenty20, especially when it's someone like pollard who looms from the lower order and when he does "hit" can take the roof off stadiums. His international record has yet to hit the heights his domestic has but there's plenty of time for him to improve. consumate twenty20 specialist, and it's nice to have a big name player in your team.

the big man.

er, write up for broad. so everyone knows stuart broad is a bit of a prick yeah? annoyingly he's become quite good cricket though, it was so much easier when he was a prick and rubbish at the same time. I think he's the most capped english twenty20 player now, which speaks volumes about how valuable he is to the side, he's certainly their most reliable quick bowler in limited over formats. He's still perhaps to get the finer nuances of the format and, of course, his twenty20 career does include being dispatched for 6 sixes in one over, but I think that's unlikely to happen again. He's a big guy that bowls fast and is handy with the bat, ultimately I couldn't ignore him, no matter how much I dislike him, and I suppose that's the highest compliment I can pay the guy.

Another good pick, was between Pollard and one other guy in my mind still. Hadn't thought about any other countries besides England and Windies at this stage.

and thanks for the offer to take back over Stinky, but my heart isn't really into researching players right now, so I'm happy to sit back and just keep an eye on how things are going. Cheers man.

I've never rated Pollard.
Damn...how did Prior escape my notice?? Didn't do too well with the bat today.
I think Broad is a very good pick. Was thinking of that but I didn't want a keeper escaping me.

Darren Sammy

Darren Julius Garvey Sammy (born December 20, 1983) is a Saint Lucian cricketer who plays international cricket for the West Indies. He is a right-handed batsman and a fast-medium bowler. On making his One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in 2004, Sammy became the first person from the island of St. Lucia to play international cricket. Three years later he made his Test debut against England, taking 7/66 which were the best bowling figures for a West Indian in his first Test since Alf Valentine in 1950. Sammy was appointed West Indies captain in October 2010. He scored his maiden Test century in May 2012 during a match against England.

^Good picks guys - Sammy has done well in T20 and gives that extra option with the bat. And Pollard is a very talented man. Like you Icon, I'm not sure I 'rate' him - I always tend to hope he fails, to prove that he's not a 'real cricketer' (as Michael Holding once put it)...But there's no denying that he has incredible hitting ability. And I still would have taken him first like Stinky did. Great guy to have at the end of the batting order.

I'm sitting dead last in this round and I've got ZERO idea of who might be there at the end. Will be very interesting this round methinks :yes I can only see one guy who's a lock to get picked soon, the rest...who knows?

My next pick "Dwayne Bravo".
Dwayne%2BBravo%2Bvice%2Bcaptain.jpg

My Team::

1. Kamran Akmal
2.
3. Shahid Afridi
4. Owais Shah
5.
6. Dwayne Bravo
7.
8.
9. Graeme Swann
10.
11.

^Yep, Bravo was the man that had to be picked - NOW is when the fun begins...:p I can see a decent spinner or two, maybe a couple of batters depending on what you need - be interesting to see what I'm left to pick from.

And Aoun your team is looking quite nice thus far :thumbs
