A T20 draft...cricket_icon & swacker's picks

I'll have RP Singh as my 12th man, need a extra pace option, and he's actually been decent in T20's. Its only the recent years which have let him down.

A coach? I'll have Andy Flower, my knowledge of coaches is quite low and he seems to be the best of my knowledge.

For a ground, I'll have something that helps me with bowling. A ground in South Africa maybe?

Team name? Cricket United?

Mark Boucher (12th Man)

Nathan Bracken (Coach)

As my 12th man and coach, I pick up two great cricketing brains. Mark Boucher joins the team to keep wicket while one of the playing XI will always be off the field for two overs each. This is because, in my infinite wisdom, I overlooked the most important position on the park in the quest for batsmen and bowlers. So, my solution is within the laws of the game, but not the spirit - a revolving "nature break" system that will last until Kaushal Silva comes in to replace Saman Jayantha (PLEASE??? :p).

Nathan Bracken is my coach because of his understanding of all of the subtleties that are part and parcel of Twenty20 - batsmen and bowlers alike could learn a lot from him.

Need I say more? Surely this is the most stunning ground in world cricket.

I'm not going to let you replace him...but not out of spite, just because I like your solution! Spirit of cricket is for pansies :D I didn't even notice that you'd gone without a keeper.

And Nathan Bracken is an interesting one, he's on the ABC radio here in Australia for the Big Bash, and he says some fairly intelligent things...relatively rare for commentators these days :yes

Pretty big penalty for not selecting a WK in your XI imo. One of the reasons I took McCullum with my first pick was to mess everyone else up when they overlooked a keeper for themselves. I also toyed with the idea of picking de Villiers as my second player to further screw everyone, but there were way too many better options with bat and/or ball.

^Hmm yes, I think so. I'm not one to overvalue wicketkeepers, especially in T20 (I've got Umar Akmal :p), but to overlook one completely is a pretty big oversight.

No overnight action, so I guess I should post my round 12 picks...

12th man will be Ian Harvey. I was looking for the best player left to pick who was also a GOOD FIELDER - a 12th man's most frequent task. A few points of interest about Harvey:
*Harvey was the first player to score a century in T20 history with his 100 for Gloucestershire in 2003.
*Very attacking batsman, mainly at the top of the order in T20. Career strike rate of 156 with an average over 30 makes his numbers truly excellent. His ICL stats were excellent too, but those don't count in the official record.
*Excellent variety in his medium pacers and often relied on at the death with his yorkers, slower balls etc.
*Able to throw the ball with both hands and would do so during matches, not just in practice.

I think Mathews is probably my weakest T20 performer, so if my 12th man could play I think Harvey would get his spot.

Coach will be Lalchand Rajput. Who?? Rajput was the coach/manager of the Indian side when they won the WorldT20 in 2007 - they were between coaches at the time (after Greg Chappell and before Gary Kirsten). He also coached Mumbai Indians in their first year. So he's a World Cup winning coach, but more importantly he's a man after my own heart...Rajput was caught on camera laughing after Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth during the 2008 IPL :D

Home ground will be Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Due to my 3 specialist spinners, I was looking for an absolute rank turning pitch, and from my quick perusal of some T20 results, it seems that a LOT of the wickets in Mirpur fall to spin. Also, Chris Gayle hit a couple of 100s there for Barisal Burners during the BPL this year - he'll love playing there again :yes

Team name will be Just What the Dhaka Ordered, or maybe the Dhaka Tracer Bullets...can't decide :p

Stirling is already picked.

Andrinissac would have won this by a country mile if he had just picked some half-decent bowlers.

Well that's basically it everyone - who knows if these 2 guys are going to show up and finish off...:p

Final thoughts?? Which team do you like and why?

Lal Chand Rajput was good pick, Jason. He did well as a coach of India. Shame that they (BCCI) don't pick him again.

----------

I like Stinky's team. Good batting and some brilliant bowlers as well. Few weak spots, yes, but not more than any other team.

Apart from that, I like how my team has shaped up. Particularly in batting. All our batters including the 12th man (excluding bowlers of course) have scored a century in T20s which is a remarkable achievement. KP, Watto, Dussey and Marsh are few of the best batsmen out there of the game's shortest format. We have a good bowling attack as well but not many rate the likes of Munaf, Dockrell and Bishoo too high despite being good bowlers. Razzaq, Watto, Dussey, Dillu (KP?) give us plenty of bowling options to cover up if needed.

And which, you think, is the best team as we are near to close of the drafts?

And still he doesn't pick a bowler as the 12th man, what a legend.

I like the look of your team, Sifter. You've got quality and cover for nearly every thing.

My team is somewhat weak in batting, but I hope my good setup of bowlers help me to cover that weakness. I wish I had a good batsman or two though.:(

Care to trade, Andrinissac?:D
