A T20 draft...cricket_icon & swacker's picks

Andrinissac, the draft goes in sequence here unlike cricket leagues section. So, you have to wait for your turn to pick a player. Moreover, you need to do a write-up about a player you pick in a round of the draft.

Would be best to let Sifter handle the updates and whatnot, otherwise it's annoying to read back over with others posting orders.

Andrinissac, the draft goes in sequence here unlike cricket leagues section. So, you have to wait for your turn to pick a player. Moreover, you need to do a write-up about a player you pick in a round of the draft.

Yes quite right, it's one player at a time not one round at a time - so you must wait for send2yaari to make his pick, then you can post yours. It is a slower system, but it all adds to the suspense and strategy of it.

Damn I might be a bit late for this but can I still join???

I think so! I'll put you as last in this round, first in the next - so you'll have a double pick. Will update the complete order so you are in it. I think 11 might be our limit now - you are lucky last!

I should've taken last pick for Australia, would still be guaranteed a world class player :p

Hmm this is true, but you also might get an EXTRA AWESOME world class player towards the top of the Aussie round - you never know who will drop a few spots :yes

^
You doing a write-up?

Yes please do a "write-up" for each pick you make. That means just writing a few sentences (your choice about length...) about why your player is a great T20 player, maybe mention a performance of note, and why he is a good fit for your team. This is your chance really to tell everyone why your pick is so smart :D If you want to make it look sexy with pictures and stats -go for it!

Also, just to remind everyone, this is an ALL TIME T20 draft - not a current T20 draft. ie. selections should be emphasising who has had the best T20 careers, or who the best T20 players were at the peak of their powers, not so much on who is the best player currently.

So now it's Aoun 'on the clock' to make his choice - lets see who he goes for...

My obvious pick is "Shahid Afridi".
Sorry will do write-up later.

Sorry will do write-up later.

This is OK - better to delay the write-up and keep the draft moving :thumbs
That's what I'm doing as well...:p

My choice is Christopher Henry Gayle, I'll tell you why he's so awesome when I get back home...
Chris+Gayle+Bash+League+Thunder+v+Scorchers+k3rmewpLeMxl.jpg

Such an intimidating batsman who can clear the fence easily and if you don't get him early you'll be chasing leather for a while :)

Here's what I found out about Gayle...his record in domestic T20s stands above all:
*His 290 6s are almost 100 ahead of the next guy;
*he has scored 8 100s - almost double the next guy;
*he has won 22 Man of the Match awards - most in T20 history;
*he was the batsman during a 37 run over (6,6(nb),4,4,6,6,4);
*he's the only player to average over 40 AND have a strike rate over 150 in domestic T20s; and
*he is the 3rd highest run scorer ever with 4110 T20 runs thus far - showing that Gayle is no fluke or short lived phenomenon.

He's also had a very successful time in international T20, able to bash around the higher quality bowlers too. He was the first man to hit a T20 international hundred - 117 vs South Africa in the first World T20 tournament (still equal highest score), where he brutalised Shaun Pollock in particular. Another quality guy who got hammered was Brett Lee, Gayle pasting him around The Oval in the 2009 tournament with 27 off one Lee over, including a HUGE 6 over midwicket as Gayle made 88.

His casual, but accurate off-spinners will make a handy 6th or 7th option too. Can never hurt to have bowling options.

David Warner

Talk of a dream start for anyone! David Warner is the first Australian to play international cricket without playing first class cricket since 1877. T20 international against SA in 08/09 was his debut one where he blasted 89 runs off 43 deliveries. A pocket size dynamite if one wants to call him that. He is an attacking opener and can rattle the opposition in no time. Surely, one guy to have in your side when you are looking at T20 format.

He is 6th in the all time list of most runs in T20 matches with 3682 runs to his name at a SR of 143.82 which is behind only Chris Gayle's 155 above him in that list. He has hit 5 T20 hundreds and is next to Gayle who has 8. He is the highest run scorer for New South Wales in T20 and is 3rd for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. He can play most of the shots, can even switch and still send the ball out of the park. That's the raw power of the man! To add to all of this, he's a live wire on the field. Has taken some exceptional catches and pulled off some fantastic run outs too.

Matches: 127
Inns: 127
Runs: 3682 @ 31.20
HS: 135*
SR: 143.82
100s: 5, 50s: 21

The first man in my squad is quite possibly the greatest bowler ever, and one of the game's greatest thinkers. He could bowl aggressively, yet restrict the runs, and all while giving the networks a live commentary of how he does it. Now well into his 40s, Warne should be well past his best, yet still stands head and shoulders above any other spin bowler. He can also lead a team to victory without any apparent challenge, and his wealth of knowledge is unbelievable. The ultimate showman, and the greatest Twenty20 personality, if not player, ever.
