Meeting the Scouts!

I have been at Goodison for 5 hours now and decided to have a chat with the team. I called in my seceretary Katie and asked her to arrange a meeting with the team at 4 in the evening, barely 2 hours before my first interview.

I still had 2 hours before I meet the team, so I called in the scouts - Jim Little, Dan Nelson and Richard Summerfield. Those 3 are honest blokes who care a lot for the club. Though few of their picks have been awry over the past years, I respect their rationale.

We discussed for about an hour, in which I let them know, that I would be hiring one more scout. Jim was hell bent on nabbing Andy Johnson, who he felt would be the best option available to include in the strike force.

My initial instruction to them was to keep a look out on players who are available on free. I really have done my homework on this and have identified a couple.

Dan was silent through out and in the end passed me on a slip that contained his reckonings for a buy.

Richard recommended central defender Lucas Neill as a good signing.

AJ - Will that snob Simon Jordan let him go?

Lucas Neill - One transfer I would give a serious thought into

All those names are now in my data base, I will defenitely mull over this tonight!

Thanks mate for the support! :)

Meeting the team..

Well, I was a bit apprehensive of this situation as at 24, I would be younger than the majority of the team (which had a lot of ageing players IMHO) and also the fact that my predecessor was a big hit with the fans and players. I knew how the fans liked me in the morning and now it was time to know what the team felt. One thing was certain though, I would make it certain that I am not one to be played around with!

The boys were cooling off in the locker room after a light training session. I passed for a moment at the door hearing my name mentioned.

I heard some one say

"...might as well hand in a transfer request after a couple of games! that would show the moron"
Another voice...

"Damn those yanks! I stuck here only for Moyesy!"
a third voice....

"bloody kid bossing around! that sonofa....."

Well! well! this just gets interesting, ain't it?, I thought to myself and entered the locker room.

"Good afternoon chaps! Like it or not, I am your manager now. and know what, I am glad to meet you guys in person. I am a great fan of Everton and few of you were and are my heroes, even if you played like **** and got wallopped 7 - 0 by Arsenal.

Well, I am here to do some good for the team. I am no David Moyes, hell I dont have the experience of managing a team that the manager of York city has.

But I am passionate about this team and am lucky to manage it. I have some news for you. You get your first game in about 4 days against the reserves and I am going to use that to gauge you and file my first opinion on the first team for the season.

I have about 40 million quid to rope in some good players, so if any one wants out, he better be firm about it. There is no second chance.

I dont expect you to give me respect, but respect the club who have you employed and pay you.

And yeah! Good Luck for the season. Do come to me if you want anything...."
And I pushed out of the room to go and check out the list given by Dan Nelsen. Might aswell finalize a few names to pursue before the interviews...

Sign Lucas Neil. He is a really good player. This story is fantastic. It makes me want to buy a managerial game and play it more than FIFA 06.

Great work Bala.

Thanks Surendar! :)

Dan's list

Well, I knew I hadn't made friends with the boys, but oh well, atleast made my point clear to them.

Grabbing a can of Coke, I entered my office reminding Katie not to disturb me for the next hour.

It has been a hectic day so far with the fans, my assistant and the players not to keen on having me here. Only consolation were the scouts, who were very sincere.

I switched on my lap top and made a few quick searches for players. It seems like Chelsea are making an audacious bid for Adriano. Hmm... bitching with money, I thought. I should not make the same mistakes with a truck load of money at my disposal.

Also Manchester United have clinched a deal for Torsten Frings.

Well, well - I might have a target after all? Before I put that into action, I pulled out Dan's slip and went through the names..

It seems Dan has been really working hard to identify a new striker for the team. He had listed 3 names for me to ponder about!

1. Ryan Babel - Not a bad selection at all. Pacy youngster with a ferocious kick to the boot. I am not sure whether Ajax would be keen on seeing him move out.

Babel

2. Simao Sabrosa - Current Benfica skipper. Can double up as a winger and a forward. Can play in either side of the field. Good one Dan!

Simao

3. Angelos Charisteas - Tall, gangly striker. Might be a good replacement for Dunc, as we can use him when we employ the long ball strategy.

Making a few notes, I closed my laptop, pulled out my mobile and called up Stamford Bridge.

"Yeah! Good day! This is Balaji from Everton. Could you get me Jose Mourinho? Sure!"
I did get Jose on line...

"Mr. Mourinho! This is Balaji, from Everton. Yeah! Thanks, I just called to enquire about the availability of Hernan Crespo!"

I don't think you will get Hernan Crespo. Frings is a good buy for Manchester United. Does the story start before or after Germany 06?

This is very well written. Well Done :clap.

Before Germany 2006! It starts with the 2005 season!

And thanks for the encouragement!

Setting wheels in motion....

I had just finished my discussion with Jose Mourinho. Contrary to general belief that he is a bigoted git, he sounded real amiable over the phone, even wishing me well in my managerial career.

Crespo - My pick to partner Beattie!

He was really confident of signing Adriano and was open to hear me out on Hernan Crespo. I said we would be interested in signing him as Drogba and Adriano would most possibly relegate Crespo to the bench.
He encouraged me to table an offer for the Argentine, which I said would be done once I discuss within Goodison.

Having done with that, I called in Katie and gave her a note to be sent to SKY!

Half an hour later, Katie informed me that SKY has published the news (though a hotch-potch version of it)

Checking out the SKY website, I moved out of my office to meet the press.

Atlast, something is going my way!
