Ashes-2023 England VS Australia 16 June-31 July

Harris Johnson and Siddle weren’t really consistently excellent with Harris often injured, Johnson blowing hot and cold and Siddle being a pie chucker

Hughes and McDermott were excellent, not sure how often they played together or who the 3rd would have been: Alderman or Reiffel I guess. Decent but not in the McGrath / Gillespie / Lee class. McDermott had a bad injury record too
Looks like Bruce Reid was the bowler Hughes and McDermott played with as a trio. Reid averaged about 20, McDermott 27, Hughes mid 30s in 9 matches.

I'm interested in looking at some combinations and their records. Might have to start my own thread so I don't bore everyone to death.

Australia have completely got away with it thanks to the rain in the last match.
Credit to Cummins and Lyon for that partnership in the first match too.

Reid of course. Left arm like Starc. Very good bowler.

Reid, Alderman, Hughes, McDermott was a thing for a while, iirc.

Geoff Lawson played a lot in the 80s, will feature in a few combos.

Late 70s / early 80s Len Pascoe was pretty useful but I think he was injured out of the game after 20 tests or so.

I suspect Jimmy will follow suit. Don’t see England picking him again.
England will 100% keep picking him. And why shouldn’t we. One off series doesn’t undo everything he’s been doing in previous years as well as Stokes having ultimate trust in him and it would be good to have him around to see through the next generation

Was so happy after today. Now bummed out

Can't see Anderson being picked for the Indian tour, maybe in the squad but in the team? I don't feel like thats likely. Than I do wonder what happens for Anderson from there.

I wonder if Anderson might have had enough by now if Troy Cooley's spell as England's swing bowling guru hadn't involved banishing England's all time most gifted swing bowler to the nets to learn how not to swing the ball by remodelling his action while the rest of the squad pioneered Murray Mint based swing techniques.
