Ashes Cricket 2013 General Discussion

@blockerdave....it is true how much more positivity ashes forum used to have compared to big ant. They started with a video of the developers talkijg about the new ideas that went into making the game. But after that it just kept going downhill. The irregular podcasts that most of the times was not very insightful and then the constant "no we do not have thhat feature" made things really bad. I remember the moment chief said players will have the same body, things took turn for the worst and never recovered after that. Contrary to popular beliefs More than the release date fiasco it was the lack of features compared to the other game that made people this negative.

A lot of eyes will be on bigant in the fielding/bowling/batting chief, if they nail it even close then trickstar will look well simple.

You don't "nail it even close". You either nail something or you don't. That's the point of the phrase.

I'm looking forwards to playing it. Clearly they've done something very different, and clearly they are confident it's amazing given the amount of derision they've attributed to the mechanics that have been so successful for the past 10 years. I'm expecting something amazing. ;)

IS IT? Maybe it doesn't even exist? I challenge Rockstar to release 20mins of gameplay. Otherwise I don't think it really exists.

I see what you did there chief.:D

Some hiding can be good, these days we see to much of games/movies than in the past. For ashes 2013 if I was the boss, give the fans something to smile about ASAP.

1. Mike comes on here today and says still on target for November.:thumbs
2. In 2 weeks times the first trailer and screens(:p) will be released to the public, a date would help but if not then the week of release is still good.

Simple and would work a treat right there.

PS God I am going back to my old ways, damn you no ashes 2013 love.:lol

I know the point of the phrase chief but I don't want to be na?ve and think everything will be rosy and perfect first time around. PS I am also looking forward to kicking your butt online soon, then who will be the chief.;)

Edited for personal opinion.

Lol. Granted. Would you prefer "implemented for the past 10 years" rather than "used"?

It's going to be the most interesting part for me chief, graphic and features could be the same:lol but a old feel with tweaks vs a totally different feel and way to play a cricket game is just so exciting.:clap

Clearly there has been none "successful" cricket games in the past 10 years. Even with AC09 or IC10, with initial hype the games did took a massive dip and all came with there fare share of "Bugs" and some game breaking ones.

Hmm. Not a massive surprise, but we disagree on this: Both games were successful.

EDIT: In fact, I'd add Lara 2005 to that. That and AC09 were incredible, incredible successes.

EDIT2: Oh, and before we see another GTA \comparison, let's all take this in for a sec. http://vr-zone.com/articles/grand-t...y-beats-big-budget-hollywood-films/55320.html
SPOILERS: ?170m is *slightly* above the typical budget for a cricket game.

Mike F is not stupid, he knows the majhority of us are waiting for his news so we learn more about Big ants plans.....

If MikeF wasn't able to produce anything on Friday that's fine. Sometimes these things happen in business. But at the very least he should have logged onto PC and let us know. After all, he did make a commitment.

And we are a open, accepting and forgiving bunch right?

Right?

Again, I think you're mistaking commitment for care. We're getting over-serviced by Ross and there's no way for Mike to emulate that, because I honestly don't think he really cares about a third party forum and updating us (locally) here. We got lucky with Chief because he had a prior knowledge of PC.net and had interacted with us in the past and, as evidenced by him sticking around, he likes the forum and the folks here. Mike isn't invested that much here and has only turned up by default of Chief no longer being involved. In a sense, he's already on the backfoot in that regard. Then throw in the game he's making has been delayed, he's prolly just got bigger priorities than stopping by and reading some of the vitriol spouted by certain people in this thread... as Matt said earlier, I don't really blame him.

The level of input and interaction we're getting from Ross is an exception to the norm in every sense, Mike simply can't match that and mostly likely doesn't want to. Stopping by to tell us "oh, by the way... got nothing for you today" isn't going to help him, so just by staying away he's probably doing the right thing.

The latest from Mike via their Facebook page on Wednesday, in response to another variation of the 'when are the screenshots/videos' question:
We are working hard on preparing these assets for our publisher 505 Games to release ASAP.

This guy gets it.

I disagree. They probably sold well for cricket games, and maybe that is being used to define their success, but I don't think many people on here would say they were great or even very good games. And of course the hardcore cricket gaming fans on PC are often the most forgiving as we're so desperate for cricket games that we overlook some flaws that more casual fans pick up instantly.

BLIC 2005 was probably the most fun game out of the box but I put in more time and had more fun with earlier EA games that were heavily modded. Ashes 09 was only fun for batting since bowling had the horrible mechanic that I've gone on about many times and also the runout bug pre-patch. Even then when batting, having my guy attempt to hook yorkers was rather frustrating. I think when you have to save after every over, just in case you need to reload because the game bugs out, is not the sign of a very successful game.

Oh well, at least you could play online....for 10 over games without saves that disconnected or lagged horribly more times than not.

you're probably right, that i am maybe ascribing too much influence to PC.net

but then again, i just think this sort of platform is going to be a significant source of review, word of mouth etc.

percentage of sales yeah I agree we're a)negligible and b)even a lot of us will buy the game despite the negativity so it's understandable he doesn't care that much...

my scepticism about the game ever seeing the light of day is mostly driven by the manner/lack of engagement here and lack of attempt to turn around the negativity , so looking at it more your way it's highly likely i'm wrong. i actually hope i am.

deep down my hunch is ashes was always designed as a cricket "game", and bradman as a cricket "simulation"... and 505/trickstar have been shocked that there is much more enthusiasm for the simulation, and are struggling to turn that around. they've fallen between two stools and don't know how to extricate themselves. i wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a game this year but see another 505 attempt for 2015 ashes.
