Ashes Cricket 2013 General Discussion

If there is a game (which I don't think there is) I think they will advertise one week before it's release and hope to con people that way :p

Agree. I'd say 75% chance it will never see the light of day. If it does they want to slip it out showing as little of the bug-ridden shitfest it undoutedly is, and hope the ashes name and blurb on the box about kit items sells enough copies to pay some of the bills.

I think it's fair to say if they don't go all out with a big preview and marketing campaign, they aren't proud of it let alone convinced it will do well, they have 2 choices, either bin it take big losses and walk away or they put it out hoping like blocker said that the licences etc sells enuff copies to recoup some of the investment. Either way I think it's not gonna be as good as bigants or we'd have seen summink by now

Yes, I have read that too. My post was to Mike, not to you, so it's not up to you to decide whether he deems it worth a reply or not.

Move on :)

Hi TripleM

Trying to have a meaningful discussion with certain people on this forum is like banging your head against a brick wall. They are as twisted as they come and represent a classic case of obnoxious, attention craving, self centred, loathable creatures.

The bottom line is don't argue with these creatures as they are jobless, helpless and senseless.

I am still around and I check in everyday but feel if I have nothing positive to say then stay quiet until I do. I also like to follow your opinions which I may not sometimes agree with but I do appreciate your passion about cricket & cricket games. Several months ago I came to the assumption that "action is louder than words" so that's what we have been doing and we still need to redeem ourselves by November, 2013.

so mike are u going to give any update about this game or u want to meet us after this game's release at the end?? as action is louder than words ?? :rolleyes

...same with their first Rugby game being for the World Cup.

Which they didn't secure the licenses for the "Big Two" teams in that tournament... hence why they probably went so hard for the "Big Two" in cricket right now.

I think Mike Fegan is going go give us a huge surprise in the month of September by sharing something :rolleyes

A new release date?
A WIP screenshot from 2012?
A Vine clip from 2012?

Just when I start to think that may be everyone is being just too critical of the game Mike Fegan/Trickstar/505 just go out all the way to prove me wrong & everyone else right.

Here's the thing; I think a few around here actually are. Here's the longer version; I think it's justified, because Trickstar are simply ignoring everything BigAnt is doing by overselling us on their product here and in other forums (Social media etc). So they're looking pretty average because of it. Comparably with other years and other game releases, they're doing about the same information sharing-wise as they did last time, perhaps fractionally more. The difference is, BigAnt changed the game and they've been left in the dust and have absolutely no counter. Mike reminds me of the Iraqi information minister pretending that nothing is happening or living in some fantasy world where everything is fine and there's no other game coming that we as fans will be interested in.

...and they have absolutely no answer to it. Except for "wait and see" which doesn't cut it in 2013. Or 2014... depending on when they're game releases.

Short version; Glass half full is a minority position at this point, it gets increasingly hard by the day, especially as we're mid-way through September.

EDIT: Oh, early September has officially come and gone, so you can tar and feather... if you're so inclined.

You have taken Said Al-Sahaf as a very good example.

Mike himself has said explicitly that the Ashes'13 will sell very well regardless of the competition. This shows he is living an illusion. MF/Trickstar/505 have clearly not factored in other opportunity costs the gamers would be facing in a short while with games like GTA V, Beyond: Two Souls, Watch Dogs, etc coming up.

Almost all of the most awaited games are slated for September, October & November. & also not to forget the release of PS4 & XB1 in the holidays. Many of those who would go buy them they probably wouldn't have enough money left for AC'13, & Nobody would hold their money back for a game they haven't even seen. In short Trickstar/505 are not just up against BA's DBC'14, they are facing a major collective competition.

It will. It will probably outsell Bradman. "All cricket games are the same therefore get the Ashes one" - it's going to be a very hard mindset to break for Big Ant.

It is extremely cynical and everything that's wrong with the games industry to just slap on a major licence and use that to sell a game - but it works. As consumers we get what we deserve in that regard - people keep on buying rehashed sequels and very rarely can new innovative IP find space in the market.

He's wrong only from the perspective that we all wish he wasn't right - that in a perfect world the quality of the games would be the determining factor.

Indeed Mike probably would rather have had the extra cash from the licences to spend on development, if they could then sell the game in a market that judged things on merit. But it's not, so they've probably rightly purchased licences that will ensure strong sales if they get the game out in November.

To be fair to Mike he never specified early September 2013.

Ugh, I hate being "that guy" but...

We will be revealing all aspects of the game in early September as soon as we resolve an number of technical issues that have been holding us back on the production side. As soon as we are confident that these are indeed resolved we can move forward and reveal all.

...so yeah, he did, at least, the 2013 I would assume was implied ;) He also stated:

We are sitting down early next week to work through this to start building the marketing assets that 505 Games require to do their thing. I can answer this question by late next week once we have completed this evaluation.

At the end of August, and that "week" has come and gone and we know nothing more than we did beginning of August. The 'question' in ....er ...question, was never answered in early September. Devils advocate, but there is a pretty clear cut case to be made for another round of misleading statements...
