Ashes Cricket General Discussion

At the end of the day, I still take it for what it is. A game.

Do I have fun? Yes.

Does it drive me nuts sometimes? Yes

Do I wonder why certain things are done the way they are? Of course.

Do I still believe BA regardless of some shortcomings have reinvented cricket gaming and given me my best experiences? Yes

Personally for me it’s 2 good patches away from being a great game.

It already has moments of being a great game.

Is it frustrating that we have to wait and sometimes left in the dark. Yes

Do I understand what goes on behind the scenes? No

At the end of the day none of really no what really goes on. I’d love a bit more communication. I fully understand blockers frustrations and it’s purely down to the passion he has for the game and disappointment built up from what could have been.

But hey like I said, it’s a game. I have played far far worse.

Problem is it’s so hard to cater for everyone. I personally want pitches sorted.

Others want mentalities more obvious. In my opinion they are in my games. But other opinions may differ.

Blocker refuses to play around with skills and sliders. I don’t mind doing it.

Everyone is different.

I think the worst part here is lack of communication. BigAnt should at least communicate something regarding the upcoming patch. Lack of communication is testing everyone’s patience and that’s something which needs to improve.

All they have to say is that “We are working on the new patch”. It ain’t that hard is it? Someone needs to take responsibility

To be fair, and I've been pretty harsh on BA recently, they have done just that. Only that, and everything else we can guess about.[DOUBLEPOST=1517491671][/DOUBLEPOST]

I wonder who you are referring to there?!

Do you get the "We must score at 3.5 an over or thereabouts" thing in tests?

100% and it wasn’t a dig either. Just meant we interpret it all differently.

If warner goes at a strike rate of 70 and Cook and 45-50 then for me that’s a good enough difference.

The 3.5 thing is odd. As I have had them going at 2.8 but that innings was full of crap wickets!

No it's cool ... That's a good enough difference for me, I just don't see it when you factor in the prod for four or swipe for six to get up with rate from Cook.

Yeah u don’t really see how it works. I went through a period of never seeing that prod!!

Irony is my last 3 games have been among the best I've had and I'm halfway thru a 4th very promising one. All have been fun. Proper fun.

But all require me to overlook a lot of crap. The bottom line is I simply have withdrawn my optimism and benefit of the doubt that there's a process that can address that systematically. And I've explained my reasons for that.

Would love to be wrong. If the game reached its undoubted potential I would be over the moon.

"Matt@BigAnt" is the account of Big Ant's PR guy, and not me. I'm MattW on the Big Ant forum same as here.

Happy to add a separate online section - I got the impression with the DBC17 forum that people felt like online stuff got hidden away and ignored by people because it was separated. It's certainly not a decree from up high.

As for inside info - yes, there's things I can't talk about. And there's a large overlap there with things people want to know - I can't give release dates or a guess as to when patches will release, or what the scope of inclusions will be. I can't tell you those things, and I try to avoid making posts that could imply either of those things.

To the extent I post on here as 'work', that is primarily to follow up when needed for more information about an issue someone's having, or troubleshooting one. Other posts I make (like this one) are in my own time - scrolling through pages and pages of negativity doesn't make me excited to use that time to jump in and try and talk about things in the cases where I could. Equally, I'm not oblivious to why people would be negative - just I have my limits of what I can deal with.

As was said through twitter, work on further updates for is ongoing. Indeed, the tweet above is referencing a block list based issue that was discovered as part of that process on Ashes.

Thanks for Clarifying it a bit Mattw , already everyone sees a glimmer of hope shining in the dark again.

I wouldnt mind the Dedicated Online Section again , albeit in the state that the game is in currently , I cannot even muster 10 Okes together for a tourney so far :(

can someone try to bowl only to batsmen with precise mentality? i remember in dbc14 (and maybe 17) they would never try aerial shots. I was curious
if the game would play differently.

I'm using the vanilla build on PS4, not the latest one, so I assume that doesn't interest you?

Fair enough, but there was very obviously a time before as many people started feeling the way they are, people were positive and that time period didn't make people from Big Ant "excited to use that time to jump in and try and talk about things in the cases where they could" either.

This is a third iteration of Cricket games by the developer.
There has been a protracted period of lessening involvement with the community.
There are issues which have been identified within the games which continue over between not just patches, but newer versions of the games.
There seems to be an expectation for the paying consumer to continue being understanding into a void. It seems like, "Never mind your loyalty or purchasing of 7 Big Ant titles, just be silent (or positive please), we'll get to you some months later".

"Equally, I'm not oblivious to why people would be negative - just I have my limits of what I can deal with". It might be hard to believe, but so do we Matt. That limit is why there's a change in mood. Big Ant had the ability to come in prior to those limits with some transparency.

The answer is simple, give something to be positive about and people will be positive.

You just have to laugh at the victim complex of an attitude like "there's too much negativity, so we're not going to engage with you any more" as a whole from Big Ant. I'm not singling out Matt, but this is the impression I've gotten from BA as a whole lately.

It's a convenient way of dodging taking responsibility for their mistakes and shortcomings. "Those people are just being negative/trolling/wrong/whatever, so we'll just ignore them"... Started with the odd user being placed on an "ignore list", now it seems the entire forum has been placed on most of BA's ignore list. Putting your head in the sand and only acknowledging yes men or idiots does nothing to help the state of the games, or the image of the company.

Why is there the negativity? Why have the mistakes been made that have led to the shortcomings in Ashes and the catastrophic AO Tennis? Show some balls and own up to and explain the problems and maybe people would be more understanding.

Or is everything fine, the games are great, and the overly negative audience is simply to blame (and be ignored)?...

Nothing will be as funny as when Ross said the negative steam reviews of DBC17 were because "trolls" were buying the game, giving it a bad review and then immediately refunding it.

Not 2 3 patches required one exclusively for online gameplay
