Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Also if there is some fault the devs need to take an example out of this company here. Take some learnings

Unbelievable! I'm literally shocked and impressed beyond belief at what he had to say!

You can have sympathy for a developer such as this. Reading through his post, it's clear he isn't just feeling for himself, his company, their position, how it affects them. He's all for the consumer there and it feels tangibly honest and respectful.

Straight away made me interested in their game, looked it up right away. As far as I'm concerned that's how you do it. That's how you keep an audience when things aren't going well!

@Ashy1985's comment is a classic example of posting something without consideration of content or purpose. It adds nothing to the conversation but serves only to antagonise some people or galvanise others to continue to post the banal and the pointless. This is a public forum (albeit with moderated membership) but that does not mean that everyone has the right to post whatever drifts across their mind. I wish people would just think before they post and consider the tone and purpose of what they write. If it isn't helping others on the forum, whether those others are also posting or just reading, then don't post it. That doesn't mean that you can only post fawning praise but what you post needs to bear some evidence of critical thinking...and should strive to be of interest to others rather than just a statement of some groundless, solipsistic opinion.

However, as I said in my earlier post, I would hope that the majority of people on this forum simply ignore such fatuous posts rather than see them as reflective of the community at large. They should not be allowed to bring things to a shuddering halt...they should be ignored...which is what I normally choose to do.
My post was about my opinion on why the patch is taking time to be released. Right from the day Ashes was released I have read how people here have criticised the @BigAntStudios for the gameplay, I just wanted to point out may be that is why BA taking time and now people asking for a patch this week can’t get it. I felt it is the delay we pay for the criticism we had put on BA. Buddy, if you cannot see the point a person put across, don’t call it pointless.

Total bullshit. Anyone that knows the staff at BA and deals with them directly understands that we take no one for granted.

AO Tennis has the advantage of "Rapid Patches" scheme introduced by both Sony and Xbox this year - Ashes does not have that advantage, it must be a longer, larger process, as it has been for all of the other games we have produced to that date.

Oh am sorry. So what your saying is you have submitted patches but sony is not approving patches is it? The bottom line is as far as i can see there is no patch on the table for Sony or Xbox to approve, rapid patches scheme or otherwise. Where am i going wrong here ?

I'm sure it must be out there, but can anyone else find anything online about the "rapid patches" scheme introduced this year by Sony & Microsoft? Have been trying to find info on it online anywhere, as I'm curious why Sony & Microsoft have arbitrarily decided that it doesn't apply to any game being patched? I wonder what benefit it brings them to not bring something in across the board? I mean older titles are likely to submit less. The older they are, the more they've completed their distribution cycle. Surely a year from now a game released Jan 2018 will be no different in real terms from a game released Dec 2017, why the line in the sand? Can't think of a software or hardware reason for it. Can anyone else?

I've seen pretty rapid patching last year (and the year before) of many, many titles, mostly bigger budget ones of course, but also smaller titles. Sometimes two within a month of each other. Not wildly uncommon. I think even Ashes itself did two close-ish to each other. Any thoughts anyone?

AO Tennis is set up in such a way with Microsoft and Sony that patches can be pushed out faster. AC is not. Simple.

At no point in the post you’ve quoted does it refer to the development of a current AC patch.

Rapid patches are new, they were not around for titles of last year. AO has had almost a patch a week because of this implementation.

Ashes came out last year and does not conform to the criteria for rapid patches.

Responding to others, I answered the post because I received a notification, nothing more, and I'll call bullshit when I see it. Planet Cricket was a place I frequented outside of my role at BA, it's was a fun place to visit and have reasonable conversation, that has not been the case here for a long time (years) - it's just not what it was. However, far from abandoning the good people that are here on the site, I pay people at BA to be in here and in the Beta group in my stead.

Most of the Beta group are awesome, of course we are indebted to them.

Well my point is BA have to make the patch before Sony can approve it. I totally get that maybe sony is slow in approving patches and same thing happned in DBC 17 as well. All me and others are suggesting is the patching process have bing very slow from BA's end.

Would like to know how are the sweeps now , are they connecting as they should? So far for me they play higher or lower the opposite where the ball is bowled of spinners...Also is the close cam for running fixed?

Is the online issue fixed where players can exploit a 'short and wide' bowling tactic with spinners which are quite literally impossible to hit?

Yeh and there is clearly evidence of the patch being developed as shown by the Beta team. Saying it has been slow isn’t going to make it any quicker.

Agreed. And i never said patch is not being developed. With all due respect for you and for all the members here i would have to say its very hostile for anyone who ask a very logical question on development of the game. I use to be in the form from 2009 with a different user name and back in the day it was ok to ask questions or tell what we think of a game as long as its not abusive. Its very different now .

Stop posting nonsense then

Not that I want to argue on that point as every thing looses its charm over the time including mega giant social sites as Twitter and Facebook. PC compared to them is a small kid. Also the activity was pretty high pre-release and suddenly went to 0 post release. The people are here complaining about that and nothing else. Barring few I have seen plenty of people here who are nothing but being honest about opinion. Just because it does not match your thinking its not called Bullshit. People are just complaining about some activity from BA. If not for Beta team who bought in some positivity since last few days this attitude just bought more negativity. Now I know you have your block list and I might be the one going into it next but one stating their own opinion is not called bullshit as everyone is entitled to one.

One way to have an open beta is to have primary focus on the issues raised by closed beta boys while ignoring the individual rants from the open beta guys however still keeping an eye on the general consensus of open beta guys? This will only save time and effort imo.

The ‘bullshit’ that was called out was not opinion - it was a factually incorrect assumption.
