Ashes Cricket General Discussion

I predict there will be another update within the next 18 months; it'll be called Cricket World Cup 2019. But, I'd suggest not buying the game on release as it is unlikely to be playable until 6-12 months after release.

I know we love saying that. I said i will not buy as well but with all honesty the core cricket gamers will buy whatever come their way. Remember we all bought last codies lara cricket game as well. We just need another game developer to enter the market. Things might get bit better

I don't get the fascination with the patch. I really don't find the game all that unplayable. Sure I had my rant about the ridiculous run chase I encountered, but that's gone and in the past. Kissed and made up with the game since then :)

Surely people can still find enjoyment in playing until whenever a patch comes? I'm still really excited to play later on and carry on my 1st Test against New Zealand, very well balanced going into the 3rd inning! Each to their own I guess.

I think it's more the frustration that it's only minor things coming between this game being good compared to really good and the fact it's taken nearly six months to fix them.

I disagree. I've bought most Cricket games just like I've bought every single FIFA since like FIFA02. This year was the first year I never bought FIFA. Why ? Because they just focus on the payable Ultimate Team now and only slightly improve other things. Plus the well known lag has never been fixed.

This whole waiting six months for a patch while they roll them out for their new customer base in AO Tennis has really turned me off giving them another go next time. Next time it'll definitely be a wait and see for me.

Said it before on here a few times, everyone has a different line in the sand. Some people can overlook those things, some prefer not to, some simply can't. No right or wrong, each to their own. I'm still managing to find a lot of fun in what I'm doing (Controller smashing 4th innings of the 5th Ashes test aside), though like most people I'd still like to see some things changed. I'd love to see rain in the game for example, but not having it doesn't stop me playing. Same with kits online. It sure does look horrible, but the game still plays the same.

Hopefully all comes good soon enough, and everyone gets what they want. Though judging by some of the suggestions I've seen on here that would basically need a completely new game being made rather than realistic stuff that could be accomplished in a single patch, I don't think everyone will be happy!

It's playable for sure. Just frustrating because like I said, it's only a small minor touch ups that separate it from being good to excellent. I mean I'd give it a 6.5/10 with the possibility to be a 8/10. Probably graphics only thing holding it right back imo.

Will the stats be fixed with the upcoming patch? Been absolutely itching to play the game again, but find it unplayable with the stats bug, so would be great if that gets fixed!

There are many smaller things that could be altered to improve the game, many are aesthetic or rather persnickety and are not major biggies, but there are one or two major issues which can really deter someone from wanting to play this game for a while. Namely, the god-awful fact that you can be bowling for a good 80+ overs without coming close to getting a wicket and when you do eventually find an edge and it's successfully caught behind (followed by the umpire rightly signalling the dismissal) the game decides 'no, that's not good enough actually, try again!' and before you know it, the ball is back with the bowler and the previous 30 seconds were apparently just your mind playing tricks on you. This is the sort of bug that results in many a gamer ending up with a mountain of obsolete controllers!

This issue definitely has to be fixed in this upcoming update imo. This, for me, is the sort of thing which easily trumps pitch wear, AI behaviour, graphical improvements etc. All of those would be nice but they're not essential and you can still have a bit of fun with the game without further improvements to those areas.

Maybe i am just inept but i don't see how hitting sixes is easy on the highest levels.I struggle to bat at all.

Once you establish when is the ideal time to input your shot choice (closer to release on higher difficulties) it can be 'fairly' easy, although I do personally think the ease of slogging the ball into row z every shot is somewhat exaggerated. Either that or I too am inept, which I concede is quite probable! Batting is definitely not my forte in this game.

What I find more bizarre is the fact I personally find bowling easier and more often than not I am able to bowl out the AI pretty easily and swiftly on legend difficulty — numerous times I have had to open up the settings and double-check that I do have it set to legend. For example in the last Test match I played, I bowled the Aussies all out for 146 in their first innings. I bowled out a couple (using leg cutters with square pressed and 10 o'clock seam/triangle and 5 o'clock seam), got a lbw, an inside edge and the rest were all caught in the field, many from stupid shot choices (and this as I say, was on legend). But then what confuses me is my inconsistency of my success with the ball. I find sometimes I cannot do anything right, the AI slogs me for 6 and I struggle to get a wicket for ages, yet I play exactly the same and try the same things which see me picking up wickets usually.

Is it playable, YES for sure.

Did it move forward from the last title, in some areas it did.

Did it live up to core cricket gamers expectations, NO.

Did BA late down the fans of their cricket games by not supporting the product, unfortunately YES

So like you said, different people may have a different intake about this but my honest opinion is BA could have done alittle bit more, afterall this was the only official cricket game i can remeber that had the support of 2 international teams.

Without meaning to take any sides, how on earth is the current beta testing and planning to release a patch "not supporting the product"? You have a case when you talk about the timing between patches but it certainly is not "not supporting the product".

Am purely comparing the level of support they offer their other products with ashes. I am sure you will agree, that ashes didn't had the same support that some of the other products got. Arguably i think DBC17 got better support then ashes 17. Just my opinion
