I believe that 1) on-field umpires are programmed to make the occasional wrong call to reflect human error and 2) 3rd umpire should overturn any wrong decision when called upon.
That said, it is known that umpires will give players out caught off pad (no bat involved) and on-field and third umpire don't call lbw's correctly in all cases (ball tracking shows the ball hitting in line but flags it as being outside the line). Overall, I don't think the umpiring and DRS implementation feels as solid as DBC14...others may disagree.
That all sounds fair enough and pretty close to what I expected, including the known issues which I've occasionally come across before.
- Firstly, ignore the guy at the non-strikers end. He's just a character I like to make for fun
- It's not all that easy to tell because of pro cam, but I've seen the hawkeye at the end of the over. The ball pitches outside leg stump. The video just clipped wrong or I'd have included it.
- Pakistan appeal and I know that's rubbish, but the finger goes up. You can tell I'm not happy as I review nearly instantly. I'm quite hesitant to use reviews normally, as an FYI.
- I'm a little annoyed that I had good/good/ideal for the shot and didn't even make contact, but I'm playing across the line etc. and I can make peace with it.
- Third umpire gets involved. Front foot is fine. Edge-o says I hit it. Hot spot confirms I hit it. Decision is upheld, on your bike Johnny!
- So pitched outside leg, and I hit it. On-field umpire gives it. Third umpire gives it. From the hawkeye, it was at least hitting the stumps, about a ball's height from the top of off peg, but I'm not happy on this one!!
