Dasgupta: Wouldn't mind seeing Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes in Bangladesh's XI (2:10)
Big picture
Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan come into this crucial Super Four match having lost their previous contests. But it is anyone's guess which side would be more confident. Bangladesh have had it rough in their last two games, particularly their batsmen who have performed poorly as a collective.
Afghanistan have played impressive cricket in the Asia Cup so far, although the loss to Pakistan will take time to heal. They will hope for a better start from Mohammad Shahzad and Ihsanullah in the first Powerplay. Their middle order has mostly done the job of steadying the ship and setting a platform for the last 10 overs, in which Afghanistan have now scored 97 and 87 runs in their last two matches, against Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Hashmatullah Shahidi has been their batting ace, scoring 192 runs in three innings, but none of the others have been as consistent. Rahmat Shah made 72 against Sri Lanka while Asghar Afghan struck 67 against Pakistan.
Their three main spinners, however, have been outstanding, none of them conceding more than 3.50 runs per over. Mujeeb Ur Rahman's accuracy and variation with the new ball is backed up by the experienced Mohammad Nabi before their star bowler, the legspinner Rashid Khan, rips into the middle orders. Perhaps at times captain Afghan can bring Rashid into the attack slightly earlier, especially if teams get off to good starts.
Bangladesh haven't had it so easy. Tamim Iqbal's injury-enforced absence has unsettled the top order. The lack of form of the younger batsmen such as Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain has led the selectors to add Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes to the squad. Whether this will relieve the pressure on the three main batsmen - Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah - remains to be seen.
Both teams are in the same situation, effectively, as far as the tournament goes, but at the moment Afghanistan look clear favourites, their spinners itching to go at an under-pressure batting line-up that has failed to cross 200 in successive games.

In the spotlight
It is important for Bangladesh that Mashrafe Mortaza get back into the groove. He hasn't been his usual self in their last two games, conceding 7.46 per over and only taking one wicket.
Mohammad Nabi has been miserly with the ball but a little off-colour with the bat in this Asia Cup, only scoring 32 runs in three innings.

Team news
Afghanistan are unlikely to tinker with their top six but they may want to ponder the make-up of their pace attack.
Afghanistan (probable): 1 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 2 Ihsanullah, 3 Rahmat Shah, 4 Asghar Afghan (capt), 5 Hashmatullah Shahidi, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Najibullah Zadran, 8 Gulbadin Naib, 9 Rashid Khan, 10 Aftab Alam, 11 Mujeeb Ur Rahman
Having failed to cross 200 in successive innings, Bangladesh could make changes to their top order, with Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes now also in the mix.
Bangladesh (probable): 1 Liton Das, 2 Nazmul Hossain Shanto, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Mohammad Mithun, 6 Mahmudullah, 7 Mosaddek Hossain, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza (capt), 9 Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 10 Rubel Hossain, 11 Mustafizur Rahman
Pitch and conditions
Abu Dhabi remains a "bat first, score 250-plus" ground, although Pakistan did chase down Afghanistan's 257 in the last game here. The weather remains hot and dry, with a low of 32 degrees.

Quotes
"We have had collapses in two successive matches. It does make the dressing-room worried when we lose two early wickets. We managed to recover in the first game but we faced world-class bowlers against Afghanistan and India. We have to ensure more partnerships so that we don't go out of the contest before the first 30 overs."

Rules about test & ODI Ban : with-in 24 mos.
Pakistan's Hasan Ali and the Afghanistan pair of Rashid Khan and captain Asghar Afghan were handed one demerit point and fined 15 percent of their match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup Super-Four encounter between the two teams on Friday (September 21).
Hasan was found guilty of threatening to throw the ball towards batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi during the 33rd over of Afghanistan's innings. Asghar was deemed guilty for brushing shoulders with Hasan while taking a run in the 37th over. Rashid, meanwhile, received his sanction for a raised-finger send off to Asif Ali in the 47th over of Pakistan's innings.
Hasan and Asghar were found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game", while Rashid was found to have violated Article 2.1.7, which deals with "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."
The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Shaun George, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Anis-ur-Rahman. All three players pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted Match Referee Andy Pycroft's sanctions at the end of the game.
While this was Hasan and Rashid's first transgression, it is the second occasion that Asghar has been handed a demerit point within a 24-month period. In February 2017, Asghar received a reprimand and one demerit point for showing dissent against an umpire's decision in an ODI against Zimbabwe.
As such, he now has two demerit points. As per ICC norms, once a player is given demerit points, they stay on his record for 24 months. If a player gets four demerit points within 24 months, he gets a one Test or two-limited over game ban. If he gets eight demerit points within 24 months, the ban doubles.

India-Pakistan Round 2 promises closer tussle
India are the only team unbeaten in this Asia Cup so far
If you go by recent history and still write Pakistan off based on their first meeting against India in the Asia Cup, there's a chance you're losing all your money in a bet.
In the space of 14 days in 2017, Pakistan's entire world spun around. They went from having a mid-tournament inquest courtesy India, to beating their beloved neighbours in the final of the Champions Trophy. It's a win that has stayed etched in the memories of the Pakistan players, and is one they'd turn to for inspiration ahead of Sunday's Super Four game.
The India-Pakistan appetite whetter on Wednesday turned out to be a damp squib, but one side of the fandom will gladly take another such outcome. The likelihood of that happening, however, has diminished since Pakistan paid heed to Mickey Arthur's passionate calls for improvement.
India at the Asia Cup meanwhile, have had fewer troubles. That their toughest challenge came against Hong Kong speaks volumes of the level of play they achieved since that scratchy performance. Even life after the absence of their only fast bowling-allrounder hasn't been put to test...yet. But that could soon change.
At this stage, India are unbeaten, and Pakistan have just pulled off a character-defining victory over Afghanistan. Sunday's game brings together two teams seeped in rich rivalry history, and gives each the incentive of taking a big step towards the final if they beat the other. If that doesn't bring about a much closer tussle, it's hard to say what will.
When: September 23, 2018 at 5:00 PM IST (3:30 PM Local Time)
Where: Dubai International Cricket stadium
What to expect: A game that keeps fans staying back till the very end. Both the pitches used in the games in Dubai have been slow so far. The 300-run mark hasn't been breached in the tournament yet but even scores in the range of 250-280 have been very competitive. The weather has been consistently taxing.
India: Ravindra Jadeja fit into the spot left vacant by Hardik Pandya, like a dream. There should be no team changes from the emphatic win over Bangladesh.
Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah
Pakistan: Haris Sohail or Faheem Ashraf? Shadab Khan or Mohammad Nawaz? Shaheen Afridi or Mohammad Amir? - Pakistan have a few calls to take.
First of those three is probably the toughest because neither of the two have done anything spectacular in this tournament to hold down their spot.
Between the two tweakers, a lot depends on Shadab's fitness. He had a groin injury during the first India fixture, and despite Arthur saying it shouldn't keep him out, Shadab didn't pass the medical test for the Afghanistan game. Now, even if he is fit there should be a fair dilemma, following Nawaz's 3 for 57 in the previous game.
Young Afridi has as many ODI wickets from one game that Amir has in his last eight outings. India's batting unit poses a different threat to Afghanistan's, but the 18-year-old should pip the senior pro.
Probable XI: Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul Haq, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed (c & wk), Faheem Ashraf/Haris Sohail, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan/Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi/Mohammad Amir
Did you know?
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar is four away from 100 ODI wickets, Yuzvendra Chahal needs two for 50.
- Babar Azam - who averages 54.33 - will play his 50th ODI on Sunday.
What they said:
"I was only looking at when I got a chance... because last 2-3 series have been away and I've not played in that. So, I was motivating myself that whenever I get a chance... what's in my hands is to perform. I was thinking more about what was in my hands, about what I can do, about how I can improve my game and how I can upgrade my game in away conditions. Those are the things I would think" - Ravindra Jadeja.

Quite the hater you are?
A team that was unheard of has been competing against the top ones, defeating them, dominating them. Guess that sums it up.
