Asia Cup 2023

So, India have a lot of problems and it is quite apparent. The constant changes to the team haven't worked in their favour and they seem to be quite unsettled. While the World Cup 15 is more or less confirmed, India now needs to ensure their top guns have adequate game practice. Having these guys play a Challenger in India might be a good idea.

India of today doesn't evoke much confidence. I'm quite worried that they will slip up against weaker teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh/Afghanistan as well. Dravid's tactics aren't working. I understand the need for batting practice, however having these guys bat first on a seaming track doesn't make sense.

Despite this, Indians night still draw hope from the fact that pre-CWC 2003 and CWC-2015, we faced similar concerns with international games being treated as practice matches. We still managed to reach KO back then.
So, predictions for tomorrow? Reverse jinxers will be banned from this thread and the World Cup thread. Yes, that's an option :winky:
That's why I didn't post....:laughter:

my 1 year old nephew is a better commentator than Athar Ali Khan
The same guy who once said that a DLS calculation be applied to decide a match. The only problem being that it was Day 3 of a Test match and he made that comment in front of Ravi Shastri .What followed was a full bloodied response from Ravi :grinning:

Believe it happened during Aus tour of Ban OR Ind tour of Ban ,somewhere around 2005/6 ish

if you can find me that clip, that would make my week

This is mockery! Bumrah's reputation precedes him and hence he walks into the side. Utter bollocks!

Expect this during the World Cup too! Especially vs Sri Lanka, Rohit & Virat will miss home cooked food and hence wont play. In Pune, vs Bangladesh, Bumrah will sit out as his in-laws are expected to treat him lavishly. My theory on the match vs Netherland will hold true as well- with Sharma and Dravid both sitting out. :abuse:

He went home for child birth. I think you are acting harshly. It's not like he is going on a little vacation at the expanse of India matches.

Prioritizing family is never wrong, however, for Bumrah, who has been out of the team for a year, it seems weird to simply scoot off after just one game. Would he have disappeared had it been the final?

Then again, a child birth is a process that gives out a 9 month ETA- either join the team post the birth fully or don't play the Asia Cup. Cannot keep using the Indian cricket team as his personal practice grounds.

I might sound harsh, but our performance and fitness has been pathetic ever since the last 2 years. If players can't commit, they are better off playing leagues then.

This is a ludicrous take. You can’t say prioritising a family is never wrong then call it wrong anyway. Saying that he should sit out an entire tournament in anticipation of childbirth is also ridiculous given how variable the event of it is.

The cheap shots at Kohli are ridiculous too, has he ever missed a game because he got homesick? Don’t think Sharma has either or Bumrah for that matter.

Please don't tell me that this was a sudden news for Bumrah. He was well aware of the due date of his wife. He could have put in a request stating that he'd join post the birth. The fact remais that even after returning injury he hasn't proven himself. If players, who stay out for a year keep taking leaves every now and then, how are we expected to field an XI that will play the 1st game of the World Cup? Kohli missed the remainder of the tour in Australia- he didn't come back. Bumrah could have not flown at all OR can stay back for all he wants now!

As for Sharma and Kohli- are they so above the game that they will now pick and choose when and where they will play? Flying to WI and not playing the ODIs- look at the form they are in. It isn;t cheap shots- it is the reality of Indian cricket today that they are taking their place in the national team for granted. They haven' gotten homesick cause of the many breaks they have take over the past year.

As for the child birth- assume, hypothetically, that both Ms Sharma and Ms.Kohli were expecting their children and they both go into labour a day before the World Cup Final. In this case, do Rohit and Virat miss out on playing???

Prioritizing family isn't wrong. However, it is now coming at the cost of the team's interest and their own place in the team. When MS' daughter was born, he could have gone, as there was no challenger to his place. Also, MSD didn't miss out a year. Ditto with Kohli. However, the scenario now is different.
