Too bad he batted like a snail in the test. If he was faster there might have been a chance he got to play a few ODIs. :D

Forget his batting we need his bowling in ODIs! Anyway hopefully Johnson is picked, he seems likely to given Clark isn't here. Hogg, Bracken and Lee seem certainties to be picked.

Yeah, stick to your 'Perth' dialects, GK ;) (or Mongol :p)
Anyway, it would be ideal if Johnson gets the opportunity today as he'd be relatively fresh for the first encounter and mentally prepared, and seeing as Lee is suffering from burn-out, his extra deception would be a handy back up option and provide Ponting with a different angle on the situation.

lol i'll have you know i actually speak fluent mongol *shifty eyes*

Johno will go alright i think, that Pura Cup Final would have given him some confidence after his less than memorable first two int'l games.

If Johnson can get it in the right spot he will be a hit in ODI cricket. Hopefully he has got over his nerves.

team has been announced for tomorrow...

A Gilchrist
S Katich
R Ponting
M Clarke (SLA)
M Hussey
A Symonds (OB)
B Hogg (SLC)
B Lee (RF)
N Bracken (LFM)
M Johnson (LF)
D Cullen (OB)

J Hopes (12th man)

batting as always is strong, thats always been our strength, the bowling there seems good to, nice variety.

Not a bad team at all, good to see they didn't play Hopes. Bowling is quite strong in theory, hopefully they perform. Batting I suspect Symonds will go in at 5 and Hussey at 6.

Definitely not a bad line-up there, the two slower bowlers, in Hogg and Cullen, should be able to exploit the conditions with their individually subtle variations, whilst the pace attack looks potent with two fresh left-armers supporting Lee. It'll be interesting to see how Ponting uses Johnson, and how much faith he places in his ability to perform, as he looks to overcome his previous international experiences, yet still learn from them....Good point, the bowling appears to be pretty strong in theory- now lets see how they work as one unit. I'm assuming Symonds would go in five, depending on the situation of course, but with Hussey's unbelievable ability to revive an innings, it'd be the most practical idea.

Short batting lineup, and the bowling still isn't really that much stronger because of it. Of course it shouldn't make a difference against Bangladesh, I'd be worried if we played that team against decent opposition.

Here's hoping Johnson doesn't pick up cheap wickets here and give the selectors an excuse to pick him again, not that they seem to need one.

geez i get sick of you johnson-bashers, just give the kid a go for christ sake, contrary to what you may think, it is very rare for a young player to just waltz into international cricket and dominate. Good things take time, i encourage a similar sentiment with regards to Shane Watson, both these guys have suffered serious injuries in their careers aswell.

When Johnson played his first ODI he had about 5 wickets at 50 in the ING cup for the season and had shown SFA in any form of the game, what happened to having to earn a place? Watson had shown plenty before he was picked and deserved a go, people like White and Johnson don't at this point.

Oh man, I'm making a mess of myself thinking of an ODI lineup with a specialist spinner in it. :p

Of course, I've made it known on a few occasions that I'd like to see MacGill in the ODI side, being Australia's premier List A bowler, but I guess you have to give your opposition some chance. :)

It's a pretty good lineup, batting wise. Hogg is an all rounder which I would rely on sooner than Watson and Lee is well proven. Bracken has a good eye for the ball and has proven useful, likewise I believe Cullen will gradually move upwards in the batting order.

I agree, Doug Bollinger should have toured, he was one of the stand outs in the ING. Tait was obviously the pick but hes injuried so Bollinger should have got the call up. But since Johnson is over here we may as well give him a go. Blame the selectors for making our team cheaper.

You seem to really want Bollinger in the side :D
