BBC are indicating that the XI for Cardiff will be:

1. Andrew Strauss
2. Alastair Cook
3. Ravi Bopara
4. Kevin Pietersen
5. Paul Collingwood
6. Matt Prior +
7. Andrew Flintoff
8. Stuart Broad
9. Graeme Swann
10. Jimmy Anderson
11. Ryan Sidebottom

I'd have Onions for Sidey, but with Onions and Bresnan playing in Lions game it's not looking likely that Onions'll play. Unless he skittles Australia out of course.

Nah mate, Watsons a hack. Besides, we don't need both Watson and North. I would line us up like this:

Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
North
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Clark
Siddle

I don't mind that line up. Swap McDonald, or if he is fit and bowling well in the nets, Lee, for Hauritz on tracks that don't spin though. You vastly overrate Hauritz.

Watson is not a hack. He is a good cricketer, he has a good first class average, has impressed with the ball in Tests for Australia, and with bat and ball in ODI's and to some extent Twenty20's. He should be our next batsmen in line, if a batsmen comes down with an injury. If he is bowling, IMO, he should be playing ahead of North. If he isn't, North should be just ahead, on the basis that they are about equal batsmen, North just came into the side and hasn't put a foot wrong.

If Flintoff and Sidebottom both play in the first test I will commit suicide. We can't afford to drop in form Onions for two players recovering from injury who haven't played test cricket for a while.

Lee shouldn't be playing. Firstly he's coming off a injury and secondly he's crap now. Hilfy or Clark should play.

That's obvious to anyone who has half a brain, but that excludes the selectors I'm afraid.

Yeah. I'm still wondering why they didn't play Hilfenhaus at all during the T20 world cup.

IMO Mcdonald has done nothing in either series he's played in to warrant a spot. As much as i dislike Watson at international level i would probably pick him over Macca batting wise.

Im not sure about English pitches whether they crack a lot during the end of the game, if this is a case then i might have McDonald in contention

The top order is pretty much set. At Cardiff I'd go with:

Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
North
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Lee (if fit, if not then either Siddle or Hilfy, Hilfy to take this spot on the swinging pitches, or even Hauritz's spot as i expect him to do bugger all)
Clark.

That way we have the 3 quicks, and since Cardiff is going to spin, Hauritz and part timers North, Clarke and Katich to come in.

But i doubt the selectors will pick North over Watson or McDonald, even though i thought he had a great series in South Africa

If he preforms well enough and shows that he is fit in the lead up games, then i don't see why not. Siddle hasn't exactly been dominant...

20 wickets at 19 with an economy rate of 2.15 in 2009, surpassed by only Graeme Swann. Bowled with genuine pace and looked to be seriously passionate about playing for your boys. He is abit ginger with a stupid little beard though so you've got a point.
