Okay.
Be it batting first or chasing we have to aim at around 6 an over.
That means an attacking yet cautious approach from the openers, beef the middle order with attackers, and leave the end for the big hitters.
I feel we did VERY well from overs 15-40. We hit a four like every over and @ 7 RPO and Yuvraj was going crazy. We need to do that again, but attack in the first PP as well.
Which is the best opening pair for India?
Ponting's field.
From the little observation I did during the first 10 overs of India's inning, I noticed this was Ponting's field.
Bowler
Gilly
Offside:
The Impenetrable Ring: Clarke, Symonds, and teh Skip himself.
Mid On/Off-NSW Quickster Brett "Binga" Lee
Third Man-Random (Clark I think)
Haydos at Slip
Leg Side
Fine Leg (?) Hogg
Randoms at Midwicket and Square Leg.
At least I think that's what it was.
With the Opening Bowlers:
Brett Lee. Spearhead. Ultra High Pace. Natural outswing, Hard to read slower one, good bounce. One of the world's best.
Mitch Johnson. High Speed. Steepling bounce. Troubles Right handers to a max. Very hard to get away, but seems less effective against the lefties.
Now, any opener in the world would find it hard against
a) such an aggressive side
b) against two superb bowlers
c) in the atmosphere of the situation.
What do we need? Someone with a level head, experience on one end. Other one a youngster, quick inbetween wickets and not afraid to take the attack to the opposition.
I say Sachin and Uthappa. Sachin for obvious reasons- The best batsman in the world, experience, ect. Uthappa for youth, talent, and aggression.
Together they would form a great pair IMO. Ghambir has had enough chances, at least for this series.
I would have asked Ganguly to open, but with the quality of this Pace attack I doubt he would fare. Slot him in at 3 if he's fit.
So here is my lineup for the next game.
Sachin
Uthappa
Ganguly
Dravid/KKD
Yuvraj
Rohit
Dhoni
Irfan
Bhajji
Zaheer
Sree/Murali
