I can't believe it!! What an amazing victory for South Africa, they deserve the win, Australia needs to regroup very very quickly before Friday's First Test. Good night from the Wanderers
Well, South Africa wins the series 3-2, well deserved performance. This match certainly the equal of the "Humdinger" match played at Port Elizabeth in 1986-87. Congratulations to the homeside, back to the drawing board for the visitors. Will the word choke be mentioned at the post match press conference, I wouldn't be risking asking that question.
Lol, here is hoping the bring it up! :D

In a word, ridiculous.

Awesome batting from Gibbs though. It certainly settles the choker debate - it's the aussies! Godammit! Poor captaincy from Ponting to keep Lewis bowling afer he was already going for over 10 an over, when Clark and Lee both had overs still in the bank. For a guy who is there only for his bowling at the death, you can safely assume he's played his last ODI.

It's the second best match you liers! The 99 world cup semi final was far better, cause the aussies won (well drew) that one! If only Gibbs got his double hundred, I reckon it was a clean sweep of all the batting records.

if we consistently fail after posting huge totals, then we are chokers, but one or two, then we aren't. our record in finals and in all cricket is better then south africa so choke on that ******s

Look at it this way, you posted a total over 400, how can you lose? Our horrible record means pretty much sweet blow all after this match, and yet you still insist we are the biggest chokers in world cricket! We batted continually at a run rate over 7 except for a spell when Kallis was batting (who could have guessed).
I'd say we proved alot today, and the fact that you couldnt defend that huge total makes it even better.

WOW!, what a match!, the Aussies put up a score beyond the saffies reach and the Saffies got thier in a tight finesh, brilliant batting from Gibbs, Smith, Boucher and the lower order.

I feel sorry for Lewis, who as just broken the world record of the most expensive bowler in odi history.

This weekend has been a treat for cricket fans everywhere. Tomorrow, we have another memorable one in the offing with India and England and as ZZ just said, NZ and WI.

What a wonderful gesture by Ponting to give Gibbs man of the match, they both deserved it, but Gibbs' innings really turned the tables. Well done lads!

Hang on, didn't we set the record for highest score not defended earlier this year against the kiwis (340 odd?)? And I believe the game before that we won by 1 or 2 runs with 330 odd on the board. I think you can say that we are really struggling to defend totals these days without the guaranteed 2 for 30 odd from McGrath.

I can't get my head around this, such an opportunity to grind Smith's and the rest of South Africa's confidence into the ground, yet we probably couldn't have done them a bigger service leading into a test series.

Yup, what an innings by Gibbs. He should have kept a cool head and scored his 200. Thats virtually the only record left unbroken...

It could be, bit seriously. Think about Lewis - poor guy. Even if not to win the match, he should have helped the poor guy. Imagine the drop in confidence this will give Mick. Poor fella.
Well, that's in part my point. A couple of overs from Clark, or crazy as it sounds, another over from Lee and he could have spared Lewis the humiliation, or worse, won the game. Something was amiss there and abject stupidity doesn't fully explain it.

And Shaun Pollock is the Man of the Series. No problem for me with that. Since he became the leading ODI bowler and allrounder in this series.

I reckon the aussies must've gotten some incredibly good odds in the break between innings and threw the game. I mean seriously, what would've a south african win been paying? 100-1?

It was stupidity and then more stupidity from Ponting. After Lewis was brought back for his 8th (after his first 7 had gone for about 77) and went for about 14, he shouldn't of given him another, let alone another 2. It was already at the stage where their best bet of winning was to take wickets....lee couldn't of been any more expensive, and he's a far better chance of taking a wicket.

I think that our team has proved two things to me today, Kallis is going over the hill, and we dont have to rely that much on Pollock these days. We have more than enough cover for his batting down the order, and even he would have taken some stick with the ball.

It also showed how much Aus missed McGrath.

amazing match, simply outstanding. Me and my dad have been going crazy for a Sarfie win ever since we realised it was possible. Couldn't believe it when Hall got out, what was he doing! But when Ntini ran that one down to third man, you knew they had won a great match!

P.S: I go off the computer for 2 hours and you guys post for 11 pages! Woah, great stuff!
